THREATS: Political- A political threat to O Town is if something changes with the downtown Opelika shopping community. Since it’s a historic location, O Town must comply with regulations for the district. Threats to the area could impact O Town’s storefront location. Economical- An economical threat to O Town would be not having enough foot traffic in its Opelika storefront to make enough profit. Another threat would be other ice cream businesses opening around Auburn University that can affect the business of O Town and could cause Auburn students to stay close to campus for ice cream as opposed to driving to Opelika. Without a website, a customer could have trouble finding the store operation hours, flavors, company information or location if they did not have social media. O Town also is not able to share its background story with its audience, which is something that separates the company from other local ice cream shops. Also, since its flavors are constantly changing every week, not having a place where customers can go and look at the flavors of the day on the website could be a threat as well. The company specifically wants to broaden its reach to college students in the Auburn community and brand awareness in the Auburn area. The students at Auburn University often overlook the shop due to proximity, lack of knowledge of O Town Ice Cream and competing ice cream shops. O Town wants to make initial contact with students by having a physical presence on campus. With various food trucks and eateries on campus, the company wants to know exactly what will make students come to its ice cream cart if O Town was to have a presence on campus. Beyond just increasing foot traffic and catering to college students, O Town wants to spread its message of telling a story through ice cream.
