Nutritionist Career Goals

When starting into a Health Science degree program, my goal was to become a Nutritionist. While I didn’t quite know all the preparation that specific career goal entailed, I have decided to stick with it as I have learned so much already of the steps needed to be successful in my plans. I want to be a Nutritionist because I have always enjoyed cooking and baking, even to the point of considering a culinary career. However, I have also always been passionate about making healthier food choices and trying to understand how simple changes in diet can affect our overall wellbeing. They deal with the food aspect of healthy living, and they help others in learning the benefits of certain dietary habits. While not all career opportunities involve one-on-one patient care, they are sometimes counseling groups, or organizations on healthy habits. Found on Nutrition Ed, “They may [also] explain nutrition issues to clients, assess the dietary and health needs of clients, develop meal plans for clients, gauge the effects of these meal plans, promote nutrition through public speaking and community outreach programs, and keep abreast of the latest research in nutritional and food sciences” (2016). Although Kaplan is not accredited through ACEND, which is required to take the board examination, I have done research on other options of accomplishing this goal. Whether I complete my degree through Kaplan and then carry on to an accredited Master’s Program in the future, or I can transfer to an accredited bachelors program once I have completed the 3 years of transferable “general education” requirements.
