Nursing To me, being a nurse is far more than just a job or even a career. In my future I plan to become a nurse and to even think about it is immeasurable to me. I can’t wait to be looked up too and to even be called a “life saver” , even though I may not save everyone just the effort I will give will mean the world to me and hopefully the families. I love helping others in need or just in general, everyone goes through a tough time and needs someone to run too. A nurse carries such an important role to many people all over the world. Nursing is a career that you will spend your whole life helping others. Nursing is one of the most exciting and in-demand jobs in America today. Nurses work to promote health, prevent disease and help patients cope with illness. Nursing isn’t only helping with biological needs but, psychosocial and culture needs too. Nurses check up on the patients to make sure they are comfortable and do not need anything twenty-four seven. To become a nurse is an enormous privilege that many people are scared to take One simple mistake can be the difference between life and death. After looking over the information about the patient and observing the patient’s situation nurses have to have good problem solving skills. Nurses have to be able to think fast on emergency cases and even think of how to settle problems that could rise in the future. When emergencies do come up nurses have to carry a calm attitude and always keep their head in the right area, just always be prepared for the unexpected. What is a nurse? According to the dictionary, a nurse is someone who is trained to care for sick or injured people. Nurses are well respected because they are in a skilled profession and work to remain accident free. Even though nurses are well respected there are stereotyped every day and many people have biased opinions about them. Some of which include being stereotyped as all being women, a profession many call men gay for being involved in, always working in a hospital, will always marry someone that is the medical field, all nurses wear white hospital gowns and a cap, that nursing is easy, are reject doctors, they are all the same, and they do not make a lot of money.
Everyday in this world, elderly, adults, teens or children become ill or get into accidents and need medical attention. Whether these elderly, adults, teens or children are taken to a hospital, pediatrician, specialist, or clinic, a doctor and a nurse will tend to them. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. The nurses are there to help the patient as well as the family step through the illness or injury. They provide information for the prevention of future illness and injury, and help to comfort the patient and his/her family. It is vital that a nurse understands that to be a nurse, you need a certain personality and understanding of the field.
We are not only responsible for patient care, but we are also included in many other roles. Before nursing school, I thought that the main responsibility of the nurse is to take care of patient. During nursing school, I learned that patient care was not the nurses known just for. We took many general courses and nursing course work to prepare ourselves to be an educated member. For example, it was required to us to take microbiology, anatomy, leadership, professionalisms, etc to help us to become a better nurse and have a foundation base of education. We give patient care in the hospital, but we are also provider of care. We use the nursing process to help and make decision for our patient. Our decisions are based on critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and accountability. We are hold accountable for everything we do and based on our judgment to provide care to the best of patient’s benefit. We are also known for our role as a manager, designer, and coordinator of patient care. I plan and coordinate patient’s care based on their health care needs. In clinical, my patient has a Foley catheter, I will know to plan and implement Foley care to help with personal hygiene and preventing infections. It is important to make decisions based on priorities, time, and resources. As nurses, we need to know how to delegate and ask for assistance when needed. For example, I needed help to ambulate my patient who has a total knee replacement, I then ask
Nurses are nice, caring, loving people that will try everything they can to help them get a better understanding of their symptoms. Nurses help their patients by explaining their symptoms in easier ways. Nurses are always listening to their patients to understand what their trying to say and so they know how their feeling. Registered nurses are loving people who love all their patients. People that want to become nurses need to have a loving heart and would love to help people out.
