What questions do you have about the overarching Unit 5 assignment? Although not due until the end of the class, it is important that you begin planning for this project early in the course. What are your initial thoughts about how you will approach this assignment? Explain. My question about Unit 5 is the term “CEO’s and presidents”. Are any leaders covered under this term or are you looking for more corporate leaders? Meaning would something written about the CEO of Apple, the President of the United States and the President of a bank be considered “CEO’s and presidents” if they are leaders with their own leadership style? The most common would be positional power in which a manager’s power is derived from their position in the organizations hierarchy. If the CEO tells the followers what to do it will be done without question out of respect for the power the CEO has over the organization and followers but if it’s someone lower in the hierarchy, the followers may not be as willing to do as they are asked. Another source of power would be charismatic power in which a manager’s personal qualities have a way of influencing follower either by a sense of loyalty they inspire or a history of having good insight into situations that have occurred in the past. What are some examples of the abuse of power in organizations and how might they have been prevented from occurring? Examples of abuse of power • A manager reminding followers that they have the power to fire followers at any time and for any reason. • Manager has favorite followers that get the better shifts, projects or extra perks and isolate the followers they don’t like. • Manager doesn’t communicate to you all the information you may need to complete your
