This Novel Series is by James Fenimore Cooper and it is called The Leatherstocking Tales. This story is about Hawkeye, an adopted son of the Native Americans. He aids and protects the Munrd sisters as they travel to Fort William Henry. This all took place on the USA. Frontier in the 1750’s. Natty Bumpo’s possession of moral resolve, generosity and resourcefulness that set the standard of twentieth century heroes.

Hawkeyes moral resolve is his moral code and his sense of right and wrong. One example of his moral code is “He rose on the instant, and levelled his own rifle at his uncovered foe; but his finger hesitated about pulling the trigger on one whom he held at such a disadvantage.” What that meant was that the Indian that wanted to kill him had no weapons to fight back. Hawkeyes moral code was that your word is bond. He showed that when he helps colonial military escape Fort William Henry holding the British army to their word. …show more content…

One example on how he shows generosity is when he kills Duncan out of mercy by shooting him so he won’t suffer getting burned from the fire. Another act of kindness would be when he goes and rescues Cora and Alice, putting his own life in danger to protect them. Some more examples would also be when he tracked Cora and Alice and then he escorted them to Fort William Henry. He showed great kindness and sympathy to Cora when he broke the news to her about her father being dead.

Hawkeye uses his resourcefulness by using his skills and knowledge. One example from the novel would be “ He was in the very act of raising the rifle, when a sharp report was followed by the buzz of a bullet that passed so near his body as to cause him involuntarily to start. The next instant Deerslayer staggered and fell his whole length in the bottom of the canoe.” In chapter 13, he hid them all in the Indian burial ground because he knows they will not shoot
