Neil Postman Analysis

Throughout the course, we have learned all aspects of technology. The key-note speaker, Neil Postman, at the IBM- sponsored meeting has only stated his opinion about the growing technology. More importantly, the fact that he thought of technology in that way back in 1990s in to be clearly noted. As this is also about my opinion, I completely agree with Neil Postman for a several reasons. It’s true that no one ever speaks of the disadvantages of computer technology, and when it comes down to what the computer technology takes away from us all are jobs, the act of being social and crimes. Besides that, only those who were well-educated were eligible to operate these machines. Because of that reason, people were either unemployed for a long time until they found a job with their qualifications or they had to somehow get money to educate themselves to find a better job. This may have increased the portion of the population wanting to be educated, but it led to a short-term poverty. Currently, almost all of the jobs have to do with some sort of technology such as printing machines, security alarm systems, data entry, and many more. But all of these jobs have requirements to meet, so clearly the technology has narrowed down the people that are eligible for every kind of jobs. Furthermore, I’d like to start off by saying that the purpose of our lives is to reproduce in terms of biology, but it’s also to connect with the environment and by that I mean, communicate and socialize with everyone around us for a better and a healthier lifestyle. But because of the technology, the act of socializing directly has been constantly decreasing. It’s crazy thinking about all the kinds of electronic devices that are invented and introduced in the name of connecting with people around the world when all it’s really doing is isolating every single person even from their own neighbourhood, …show more content…

The more we use and/or rely on computer technology, the more risky it gets. As Neil Postman has said, technology gives us something, it will take away something, I’d like to make a very small change to that and I declare that technology gives us a few things but take away many and the most fundamental things away. And I believe that the reason why no one really speaks about the disadvantages of computer technology is because the marketing of the products will certainly affect the product launching company. I hope one day we all realize where life’s taking us and try to find a resolution even though it may be a little late. But neither does trying not hurt nor a little outcome is better than
