Many individuals believe that the neighborhood defines who they are, shapes them as a person and has an impact on their life. Throughout my childhood I would hear the saying “It takes a village to raise a child.” Society feels a child has the best ability to become a healthy adult if the entire community takes an active role in contributing to the rearing of the child. I do agree based on the neighborhood environment a child is raised; it does have an impact on their life. For example, society classifies each neighborhood differently such as low-income neighborhood, middle-income neighborhood and high-income neighborhood. I cannot image relocating to a different neighborhood environment and adjust to a new setting. If my parents had decided to relocate and be raised in a different neighborhood environment, it would have made such a big impact on my life and who I today. My neighborhood made me who I am as a person physically, financially and emotionally. Being able to connect with different nationalities such as Haitians, whites, African Americans and Hispanic also having the privilege of learning their cultures also taught me at a young age that you should not have to discriminate one another just because you are different from one another. As far as in many different other neighborhoods they like to segregate by nationally and stay within their culture. Especially if my parents were to relocate to a low-income neighborhood, I would not have been the same independent, intelligent black young women I am now. I grew up in a middle-income neighborhood in a nice condominium. We had great neighbors that helped one another other out through any situation. According to Vox, they stated "Neighborhood plays a huge role in social mobility, they find — around half the size of the role that parental income itself plays. Moving a child from a neighborhood in the bottom 25 percent of the income distribution to the top 25 percent, they found, yields hundreds of thousands of dollars in lifetime earnings. The statistics rate goes to show that neighborhoods do have an impact on the individual whether you are a child, teenager or adult and it does affect how the individuals will intake in the neighborhood
