Negtive Effects of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOS)

Food, food, food, is what our American culture revolves around. Supposedly biotechnology has been used to make “improvements” in our food, from the fast food industry to our local grocery store. This has gone largely unnoticed by the general public. Maybe you’ve heard of a GMO? These supposedly improved, genetically modified organisms aren’t very beneficial to our bodies at all, but the FDA wouldn’t want us to notice that. GMOS include alfalfa, corn, flax, rice, sugar beets, yellow summer squash, canola, cotton, papaya, soy, zucchini and wheat.
What are GMOS exactly? According to the Non-GMO Project they are, ”“genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering, or GE). This experimental technology merges DNA from different species, creating unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.” (Non-Gmo) It is important to know this because they have a direct effect on the lives of every American. They are in most of the foods you eat, and you don’t even know it. There have been groups who have pushed the issue of putting GMO labels on the products that we buy, but somehow that situation has been avoided. The negative effects of GMOs can be seen in results of studies done on animals and humans. The studies on animals show organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility. In humans they saw that the GMOs stayed in their systems for very long periods of time which made new bacteria’s grow and the toxic insectides that GMOs like corn produce were not able to exit the body quickly.

Allergies that people have never had can spring up from the genetically produced allergens in the GMOs. I think that if we do not start to bring light and change to this situation then it will completely take over our power to keep our bodies healthy. Maybe people will start to realize what is happening and become proactive in a food revolution.
I’ve always thought I had the power to keep myself healthy, but after research on the foods I eat I’ve realized that is not the truth. What is the truth is that the GMOs in our foods are very toxic, and something has to be done about their production. Technology has greatly affected the production of this instead of aiding our world, at least in this area
