Soda is such a bad aspect to your daily health because of many reasons. Soda does not contain any essential nutrients needed for a healthy diet, just sugar. Soda is full of empty calories, it does not contain any vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, or fiber. It adds nothing to your diet except excessive amounts of added sugar and unnecessary calories.

Sugary soft drinks are included as drinks defined by the US Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Health and Human Services in their Dietary Guidelines for Americans as “sugar-sweetened beverages” that contain different types of sugars that contribute calories. Examples of these are lemonade, sports drinks, energy drinks, carbonated sodas and sweetened teas and coffees (Marrow,2011).
The article, Soda Consumption Does Not Equal Obesity, states that soda is not the only reason people are obese. When people are more active, they are less likely to have an obesity-related illness. Being active plays an important role because people are constantly burning fat, which makes it less likely for them to be overweight or obese. Based on the information and data collected through research the statement that soda has no nutritional benefits for the human body and causes harm, opposed to stating that soda has no negative effects to the body can be made. Soda is often a big part of a human’s diet. Therefore, the harmful effects of soda are occurring without people knowing soda is to blame and not having the knowledge of the illnesses that are linked to it.
Sugar substitutes typically fly under your body’s leptin radar which is the hormone that suppresses appetite. Without leptin being triggered you will consume more of whatever it is your drinking or eating that has the sugar substitute.
All the statistics and expert opinions reveal one thing – there is possibly a link between sugar and diabetes, but it is inconclusive to say whether it is or not, in a definitive way. There is an established link between soda and diabetes, but that seems to be as far as it goes. My uncle, had his share of soda, but he also had his share of high calorie foods. However, there does not seem to be a solid link between the foods he ate and diabetes. In short, it was necessary to cut back or reduce the amount of sugar he was consuming, but there was no reason for him to eliminate sugar intake as he did. In moderation and on a properly controlled diet a minimal amount of sugar would be fine.
