As a six year old is sitting in front of the TV watching Frozen, he/she is fantasizing about having long, blonde hair and, poofy, princess dresses like Elsa’s, wishing to be like her one day, or maybe even start singing along to “Let It Go”. From a young age children are exposed to many different types of media and may even get caught impersonating their favourite Disney characters. This is because they are largely influenced by the media whether it be a movie, song, video game, or television show. However, there are also many negative consequences that come with this large industry. In this manner, Tupac Shakur raps about vulgar activity in his song “Crooked Ass Nigga”. Shakur shows hatred towards authorities and his fearlessness is illustrated through his threats of shooting any cops that he encounters (“Rap Genius”). Shakur is descriptive when he explains his readiness to unload his firearm unto those whom he believes are his enemies, “I got a nine millimeter Glock pistol/I 'm ready to get with you at the drop of a whistle/So make your move and act like you wanna flip/I fired 13 shots and popped another clip/My brain locks, my Glock 's like a fuckin mop,/The more I shot, the more mothafucka 's dropped/And even cops got shot when they rolled up.” (Shakur, 1991). Listeners are able to understand that Tupac is not afraid to be violent due to the fact that he has gone to the extremes of not only being in possession of an illicit weapon but, being prepared to use it at any given moment. When children are exposed to new subjects, they become curious and without adequate education, the children’s curiosity may lead them to negative outcomes such as, sexually transmitted diseases. Only nine percent of the sexual scenes on television mention the complications and health risks of having unprotected sex (Grant). With that being said, a study found that when children watch TV shows that involve sexual content, they are likely to become sexually active at an early age and, also, that sexual talk alone has the same effect as sexual depictions (Collins et al.). Associating these two points; if when youth are exposed to sexual content, they become lascivious, how safe is it to expose uncensored sexual scenes to children knowing that only a small percentage of the shows discuss the risks? Most television shows are teaching youth about the exciting part of becoming sexually active but not about how to protect themselves from diseases that are transmitted through sexual activity. Most uncensored TV shows create a lust in adolescents but do not educate them on safe sex which can be dangerous to their health. In relation, a researcher who surveyed 75 adolescent girls found out that a few of the girls were watching soap operas, prior to becoming sexually active, and did not think that their favourite characters in the soap operas would
