I believe the most effective research method to use when examining mental health disorders is the “Naturalistic observation” the reason why I say that is because the true meaning of Naturalistic observation is watching how the client responds and behaves in different environments/situations. With this method you are able to determine the actual problems this client is facing and what should be their diagnosis. Whether it be bipolar 1 or 2, schizophrenia, DID, narcissistic personality and etc. Researchers have to be very careful not to impose, disrupt the environment/change anything so that the client's feelings and actions are as accurate as possible.
