Being a member of the National Honor Society is a high distinction. Those chosen to be in it are the best of the best - the crème de la crème. One part of being in the National Honor Society is good leadership. Knowing how to lead and inspire other in a positive way is a big responsibility of an NHS member. Members of NHS set the example to those around them. A big part of being a member is service. Members must work hard and communicate well to help others. Members are given many opportunities to help others. To be in the NHS, you must show good character. Character is composed of honesty, fairness, and respect. My entire life, I have strived to do well in everything I do. I have never wanted to settle for second best in the activities that I am interested in. Once I have a goal in my mind, I work until it is complete. I work to overcome the obstacles ahead of me. In school, I work towards perfect marks on everything from homework to tests. Not only do I work hard in school, but I work hard in the other activities that I am involved in. One example of my hard work in another activity is Solo and Ensemble Contest. This year, I had a couple of months to work on a snare solo that I was to play in front of a judge for a professional rating. When I first looked at the piece I was given to play, I had many doubts as to whether I could pull it off or not. I worked hard every single day practicing it. Eventually, I was able to play it all the way through with no mistakes! By the time I played it in front of a judge, I had played it so many times that it was pure motor patterns. I scored a superior rating on it, which I credit to my hard work. If I am going to do something, I am going to commit wholly to it.
