In America, people become completely devoted to pop culture and its innovators. Because of this common obsession, the death of a Hollywood star often shakes up the country, and sometimes, the world. This is what happened in the late November of 1981 when news revealed that actress Natalie Wood had died. Many people were shattered by the report and speculations began to form to determine what caused her death. The Los Angeles Coroner revealed that Wood suffered from drowning and hypothermia. I, like many others, have a different idea of what happened on the night of her death. Although past records state that her tragic drowning was an accident, I believe that the circumstances were not so coincidental.

As mentioned earlier, tests that revealed high levels of intoxication and the use of motion sickness and sleeping pills may have contributed to her passing. Because of her intoxication, she was likely to feel unsteady and not in the right mind. She could have caused herself to make foolhardy decisions, like going to the edge of the boat and tampering with the dinghy. Her unstableness could have also caused her to be unbalanced and unaware of her proximity to the water. This further allows us to understand why there were no signs of a struggle at the beginning of her fall. She may have been inert from the pills and alcohol, but later became alert and finally began to react to her situation. As we look at the clothes she was wearing, we can also assume that they were a factor in her death. Because of the coat she was wearing, the water weighed her down and caused her to drown in the cold water. Many argue that if she had removed her coat, she would have spared her life.
