Hopscotch The next morning everyone was in good spirits. Sampson was a bit irritable because he didn’t have a restful sleep as he tried to keep one eye open as he guarded the camp. But he knew he had to keep an watchful eye on Suzanne because they were still within reach of the Ruby Tribe. He would get to rest better the next night. After everything was packed up they made sure the campfire was out and started back. It was a long hike and they knew it so everyone just paced themselves and moved forward. The blister on Jackie's foot was bandaged and felt better and Shadow was feeling much better as well. Frances had room in her backpack so the top was unzipped and Suzanne was very comfortable sitting there. She also had a great view from way up high. Although feeling better, her ankle was still very sore. They had planned on walking a slightly different route going back. It involved one extra hill and two more miles but would bring them to an area where they could visit with others from the Oakwood Tribe. Ambur said, “Listen everyone. We all know Lucinda has a pretty stone with her. We don’t know for sure what else it might be. But for now let’s just not say anything about it. We should pretend it doesn’t exist.” Word got out (as Sampson went ahead with a note) that they would be there for dinner and the night. Five families met there on occasion as it was a central location for all of them. When they finally arrived it looked like a party was going on. And Ambur’s group were greeted like hero’s coming home from battle. Everyone wanted to hear about what happened on The Other Side and everyone wanted to meet Shadow and Suzanne. It was quite a homecoming! There were little troll kids running all around and playing with each o... ... middle of paper ... ...k to it. Be strong and don’t ever smoke again.” Dinner was fried chicken and dumplings and anything else you could possibly think of. No one went to bed hungry that night for sure. Even Sampson got to rest and eat, as raw chicken was one of his favorites! The evening went by quickly with Shadow and Suzanne the star attraction. Although most had heard of the Chameleon Tribe, not many had ever seen a member before, needless to say, or ever talked with one. It was great to finally be able to meet with them. Both Shadow and Suzanne were very gracious with their time and answered as many questions as they could. The children loved watching them change color to ‘disappear’ and then 're-appear' again, only wishing they could do it too! Soon it was time for bed and everyone sacked out in their sleeping bags. The twins, Shadow and Suzanne, kept warm in France’s sweatshirt.
