Character what is it? According to some definitions, character is defined as "the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing.” (Character, n.d.) N. T. Wright defines character as “the transforming, shaping, and marking of a life and its habits⎯ will generate the sort of behavior that rules might have pointed toward but which a “rule-Keeping” mentality can never achieve.” (Wright, 2010. Pg 7) which stands in marked contrast to the equal and opposite extremes of “rule-keeping” and simply “being true to yourself” Furthermore Wright goes on to contend that there are three common methods for living a transformed Christian lifestyle. If we follow the three methods for living a transformed Christian lifestyle outlined by Wright, we are to read the Word of God and obey His instructions consistently. John 5:39 declares “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” (John 5:39 - King James Version) Consistency is key to developing godly habits that we have to decide to act on daily and not occasionally. As Christians, there are at least six attributes that contribute to the shaping of the human person in God’s image.Reason, freedom, leadership, the capacity to act in conformity to the image of God, the capability of having a relationship with God and with others and preserving the sanctity of life. Submission to these attributes and committing ourselves to upholding them constantly through our actions and behavior will then reflect and reproduce the character and attributes of Jesus Christ.
