If there is a gene pool for genius entrepreneurship, the Cook family took a plunge! Catherine Cook, along with her brother Dave Cook, co-founded MyYearbook. When MyYearbook was founded, they were highschool students. Originally from New Hope, Pennsylvania, Catherine and Dave just moved to Skillman, NJ, and started to attend Montgomery High School. Catherine, a sophmore, and Dave, a junior, came up with this idea while looking through a yearbook, trying to make out faces and get to know people in their new, unfamiliar school. They found that this yearbook was extremely not useful, so they thought of putting this online, to help people meet others. Although all of this is well and good, Catherine’s grades did suffer a little during senior year, because she would skip to school to work on her business. After getting all the thoughts together, they proposed this to their older brother Geoff Cook. Geoff was attending Harvard University, and recently sold two websites that he had created in his dorm room. After hearing the idea, Geoff loved it and invested $250 thousand dollars and became the CEO of MyYearbook. With …show more content…

MyYearbook started out on a way to meet people online, like many other social media apps nowadays. MyYearbook was merged/sold to Quepasa Corporation in 2011. After the merge, the company was renamed, MeetMe, in 2012. MeetMe is a social media app, but in 2012 Facebook was basically grabbing the attention from most of the social media users. MeetMe had to hone in on their purpose. Their purpose is not to have friends that you already have made, that of Facebook, but to make new ones. Catherine Cook, co-founder of MyYearbook, said that she met her best friend on the app. The app is successful because it is social media, and attracts the teen population.
