When approached by Uncle Jimmy with the proposition of starting and flourishing a business in a foreign country of my choosing, along with any business of my choosing, as long as it was a legal operation, right out of college! I decided on a tavern in the beautiful country of Ireland. On the aesthetical side of my chose Ireland was first on my list for the rolling hills of green grass flowing in the calm breeze, the brilliant blue waters, and of course the plenteousness of hiking and photography opportunities. On the business side I chose Ireland for my Tavern because Ireland has a fair number of pubs and taverns already meaning that my tavern could flourish because taverns are an already established and flourishing type of business. In addition, Ireland has a legal drinking age of 18, with the exception …show more content…
My tavern would be called The Lucky Charms Tavern and I would like to establish it in Carlow, Ireland because Carlow is about 52 miles from Dublin which does not put me in competition with more established Taverns but still allows me to be near where the tourists are as well as the rural and city residents. The Lucky Charms Tavern would be a blend of my American roots and the local culture. My tavern would offer local brews as well as a few import beers and alcohols, homestyle American food and local classics as well as lodging. Opportunities of Having The Lucky Charms Tavern The opportunities gained from having The Lucky Charms Tavern would be Carlow has only three hotels and that is
Richard believes that his vision for the company, a two-tiered concept with a top microbrewery producing fresh, quality beer and a chain of brewpubs, has potential. However, due to the more complex nature of running a restaurant, he believes that the company has yet to figure out how to run its restaurant business profitably.
Group Survey of 100 people. “Should the Legal Drinking Age Be Lowered to Eighteen?” May 25, 2000
In September 15, 2002 an article was printed in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The artical was about giving liquor licenses to three “dry” towns. Jake Wageman wrote the article titled “Giving liquor sales a shot in 3 towns, an effort to boost the economy is on the way or on the ballot”. The article contained several opinons, on the topic. The idea was, wether or not, to give these towns a licenses to sell liquor and boost the towns economy. The people want a place to go to have a drink with family or friends, but they don’t want to go to a bar. That is opposite of what they want. The people want a nice, sit down restaurant where they can go to eat and have a drink if they want. People can see nothing wrong with a place to go have a drink, if they want to.
Fraunces Tavern in New York City, was originally built in 1719. By the last decade of the 17th century, New York City was rapidly growing into a leading colonial port. With its naturally protected harbor and its open, multi-ethnic population devoted to commerce, such growth was unstoppable. Before its use as a headquarters for Washington during the American Revolution, its purpose was to serve as the mansion of the Delancey’s, who were a prominent New York City family. They rented out the building to merchants for business in the 1750s. Samuel Fraunces, an upcoming French-West Indian merchant purchased 54 Pearl Street in 1762 when he registered with the City as a “freeman” and “innholder”.
The legal drinking age in the United States will always be a point of contention. No one can settle upon a drinking age that everyone is in agreement with; should it be 18 or 21? Ages 18 and 21 are the most popular options, yet neither one has 100% of the vote. With the current legal drinking age in America standing at 21, meaning that people under the age of 21 cannot purchase or consume alcoholic food or beverages, there is the question of whether or not to lower it to 18 or 19 years old. This paper will argue that the drinking age should be lowered, and examine its impact on State University.
Many immigrants seek a better life than the one that their home country can offer. For that reason, an abundant amount of individuals choose to embark on the journey towards the land of opportunity, better known as the United States. Although migrating to the United States to gain financial security for themselves and/or their families is beneficial, life for immigrants is far from glamorous. To be more specific, most undocumented workers work in secondary labor markets, where pay is low and hours are far too long. The busboys from Chicago not only depict the extent of manual labor they perform everyday, but help the readers understand why they are eager to work hard. While the essential job functions of a busboy are to ensure that tables are
Liquor stores, bars, and clubs all want to make money, and if they can get away with selling to underage teens, then they will. A study done by the Academic Search Premier agrees that,?By now it is obvious that the law has not succeeded in preventing the under-21 group from drinking? Michael Smith - 1st place. There are a lot of benefits to having the drinking age change to eighteen. The amount of binge drinking would lessen, and the amount of outrage to drink would also decrease.
During the last three years I have devoted a significant amount of time and energy to the betterment of young entrepreneurs, who in this country are mistreated, stripped of opportunities, and looked down upon. In my quest to start my own business, I faced many obstacles that I later found to plague all entrepreneurs in my country. Established family heads discourage their younger members from starting separate businesses; they would rather their younger members join them in the so called "safe business." Moreover, companies and government organizations will not award contracts to young people since older people earn respect for their age rather than their ideas in this traditional sub-continental culture. With an uncooperative family and no sources of funding, young entrepreneurs face little chance of success.
Alcoholics that are trapped so deep in the spell of alcoholism are leaving a legacy behind for those who continue to make alcohol companies millions of dollars by ruining their lives, making the wrong investment every time they purchase a bottle of alcohol; to them an “alternative route” to mask any issues they might be encountering at a particular time in their lives, and to those alcohol-making companies they are walking fortunes—walking billboards. Advertisement ads for these products continue targeting not only the already alcoholics, but also targeting underage drinkers. These alcohol-making companies can argue differently and have sworn to not be so focused on targeting people under 21. “Alcohol advertisers have pledged to comply with self-regulatory codes designed to limit t...
The current drinking age in the United States of America is 21. There are some people who agree with the current drinking age even some who think it should be raised. On the other hand, a number of people feel that the current drinking age produces more problems than it prevents (“Cross Fire”). The United States has unsuccessfully tried prohibition legislation not once, but twice in the past. These laws were eventually done away with due to the inability to enforce and the repercussion towards them that ended up causing even more trials and tribulations (Engs). “Prohibition demonstrates beyond a doubt that drinking and the problems caused by drinking cannot simply be eliminated from the United States” (Olson). In the present day, the government is still reiterating the same mistakes that they made in past attempts (Engs). Research from the early 1980’s until present-day shows a decrease in per capita consumption instead, there has been an increase in other problems involving excessive and negligent drinking amongst college students after the twenty –one year old law in 1987 (Engs). The current drinking age of 21 is not effective and is causing other social problems. (Engs). This calls for us as a nation to change our existing drinking law.
The law on drinking in the UK has always been very clear. “If you’re under 18, it is against the law: for someone to sell you alcohol, to buy or try to buy alcohol, for an adult to buy or try to buy alcohol for you and to drink alcohol in licensed premises.” Breaking these laws can have serious consequences such as fines and imprisonment, however like with most laws people break them, ignoring the consequences of their actions. The drinking law is a regular law which is broken. A lot of people forget that it is illegal and can have major impacts on your life. Teenage alcoholism in today’s society is an extremely serious problem that needs to be addressed more. Alcohol, as many forget, is a drug that has a powerful addiction and can cause extreme consequences that could lead to death. This therefore is a major topic of discussion in the present day and everyone has their own opinions on this regardless of the law. I have decided to write my Extended Project on underage drinking because I think that it is a really interesting topic and almost everyone can relate to it. Furthermore it is constantly in the news and people are always talking about it and therefore it is an extremely important debate. Moreover, I did part of my English Language coursework on trying to persuade teenagers to not drink. This will help me with my essay as they both like, hence why I can use some sources and ideas for both. In this essay I’m going to discuss whether underage drinking in the UK is going to happen in the future and that there is no stopping it or if it may stop in the future. For part of my project I will carry out research. I will carry out a range of research methods which will include reading books, news articles, internet pages and watchin...
Growing up with an alcoholic is a powerful life lesson. Individuals learn valuable skills on how to behave around immature, intoxicated drunks and what to do to prevent mishaps. Unfortunately, all incidences are not stoppable; therefore, protecting oneself from the unexpected will benefit in the long run. Alcohol can and will increase mental impairment, so if legal to consume the product, people should wisely acknowledge how much they can handle at one sitting. Here in Indiana, state executives prohibit the sale or acquisition of alcoholic beverages unless a citizen is a certain age. Many human beings follow this strictly such as my family. At social gatherings on private property, I am still unable to ingest any liquor even though I am currently eighteen about to turn nineteen on February 25, 2015. The elders believe drinking under the age limit will influence me to indulge more and increase my chances of becoming addicted. Although given a small measurement will not harm myself, experienced family members are probably
The debate of whether the minimum legal drinking age should be lowered or not has been around for many years even since the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 raised the MLDA to age 21. Prior to that, the government has t...
