I dropped out of high school the last semester of my senior year. I was having a lot of problems at home and in my social life. I fell into the whole smoking pot stage, drinking all the time with my friends and ditching school. I was running with the wrong crowd and it was leading me into a dead end. I just sat around doing nothing but wasting my life away for four years. I had a few jobs in that time but not the kind of job I see my full potential being used. My girlfriend Corina helped me get on the right track again. She helped me study for the GED test and find testing sites. I was in a self contained class my junior and senior year of high school to help with my learning experience. In that class I was able to leave school at 12:05 p.m. opposed to 2:50 p.m. I was lazy and took school for granted and now I’m very happy to be where I’m at today.
The four years after I dropped out of school I just sat around and did nothing.. I thought it was cool because I had nothing to do and I didn’t have to get up early and whatever. I was hanging out with the wrong people. These people I thought were my friends really weren’t and just used me. I got into trouble when I was in school a lot and there were constant problems at home. I started drinking a lot and smoking pot. At the time I thought those thing’s were a way out of it all, but I was so wrong. It got really bad and it affected everything I did. I would lash out at people that didn’t deserve it and I really started to hate myself. It was about time I did something with my life otherwise I would keep drowning into nothing.
My best friend through out those four years, who is now my girlfriend, helped me get my life back on track. She talked to me whenever I needed help, and went above and beyond to make sure I was always ok. Corina helped me get off drugs and focus back on school. I decided I would go back and get my GED. Corina helped me study and find the test sites and dates. I couldn’t have done all that with out her and I will be forever thankful to her.
The definition of a government is “a governing body of a nation state, and community”(Merriam-Webster). The Dystopian that we live in today is probably the same as in the book 1984 and the movie Divergent. However, there many other things that are different. One of those things is that there are no rebelling against. Also there is no different parties within the government. Most importantly, our government doesn’t control what the people do, and they don’t force people to do anything. People today can do and say what they want without the government knowing, or without the government looking over your shoulder. After reading the book 1984 and watching the the movie Divergent, there are a lot of themes that both the book and the movie have
These last four years have been rough on me but luckily there have been some lessons learned through it. I have just looked forward and moved on to greater things in life. I leave behind the bad and move on to the good. A good quote to describe my adventure through high school is when Jeannette is talking to her mother. The mother says, “ Things usually work out in the end,” to where Jeannette replies, “What if they don’t?” The mother answers with, “That just means you haven’t come to the end yet.” The quote describes my struggles in life and also brings hope for a happier
Social workers should have a strong knowledge base comprising of information gathered from variety of empirically tested theories which allows them to effectively appreciate the nature of people’s problems. Theory is a vital component in social work practice that guides the way in which social workers view and approach their clients, at micro, mezzo and macro level. Theory helps predict, explain and assess situations and
...I became so overwhelmed, thinking I could try and pick up my grades, but it was too late for me. I was then failing all of my classes. My mom would call me and check up on me, I would lie of course and tell her that I was doing well all while everything was crashing down on me. I lost all hope, I completely stopped caring. I didn’t even go to my final exams; I knew there was no hope for me. I dropped out. I messed up my GPA horribly. I took a year off and just gave myself some time to mature then reapplied for school at Chattahoochee.
... a theory should be able to explain a wide variety of things, not just only what it was intended to explain.
Gifts, people, pets, memories and actions are some of the countless things people remember in their high and low points in life. From time to time, I dwell on the things that impacted my life, and the most meaningful one of which was attaining my high school diploma. To begin with, I was not fond of school when I reached high school. Then, I made a decision to join the Armed Forces and did not know I needed a high school diploma to join. Eventually, I ended up with a high school diploma and an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, that I now find extremely helpful, as I am in college. Given these points, I can say that I am extremely proud of myself and I am looking forward to accomplish much more in the near future.
Homelessness is a growing epidemic around the world, and poverty is the most common reason most people are forced to face the miserable life of living without shelter. The only way that we can help this unfortunate situation is to take action, and by doing that, we need to know the facts about this unfortunate situation. Over two-million people live in emergency shelters, and transitional housing. With so many people living in poverty, it gives us a better understanding as to why there are so many homeless people today. Having no food, and relying on food kitchens, garbage scraps, and stealing food, is a very tragic situation. With no protection from the elements, many of them will die from heat strokes, or quite frankly, freeze to death. The average american purchases food and other household goods for their families, and some never stop to think of those less...
According to an article published by Scholastic more than 630,000 people are homeless on any given day in the United States. Some of the reasons these people are homeless are because of unemployment, lack of affordable housing, and being unable to support a larger family on their income. Also the article states that the number one cause of homelessness in the United States is the lack of affordable housing. This is such a big problem because even though that individual or family has a source of income the payment for a house or apartment is still too much for them to afford which can cause them to become homeless.
After talking to my counselor at my highschool we figured out that I had zero chance of attending a CSU or University, and if I were to graduate I would have to attend a Junior College. That meeting with my counselor and my mom really helped me flip the page on this chapter of my life. I realized that if I was going to be anything in this world, make money or support a family I was going to have to put myself into gear. Those last two years of high school I wasn’t the best student by any means, but I applied myself and was rewarded by walking across that stage in front of my family and receiving a
Homelessness is a crucial factor as to why Americans don’t achieve the ideal “American Dream”. Homelessness is a social issue that affects a widespread group of people, ranging from single individuals to families each year. Many of those who are currently homeless, don’t choose to be homeless, but are forced into living on the streets for reasons such as a financial crisis, divorce, unemployment, mental illness, drug or alcohol abuse, or even a natural disaster that triggers the rising problem of how these individuals will survive. Annually, 3.5 Americans experience an episode of homelessness. That is 75,000 people experiencing homeless each night that others of more comfortable means will never have to experience. (Thompson). Homelessness
It all started my sophomore year of high school. People always tell you that when someone knocks you down, you should always get back up and keep trying. I had this mindset at the beginning of my sophomore year, but I ended up letting a teacher knock me down to the point where I did not get back up for a couple years. I never expected my second year of high school to go so awry. Nevertheless, I was able to move forward and leave my negative experience behind me. I went to Sandia High School for my freshman and sophomore years. By my sophomore year, I felt at ease about high school. My favorite subjects were science and English. I had signed up for Newspaper that year and was very excited because I wanted to become a writer.
Life before graduation was a struggle for me. I lived in a home that seemed to bring me nothing but pain and anger. I watched someone close to me die little by little every day. I did not live a normal childhood because I was a little girl who thought taking care of the grown up was my responsibility. I carried someone else's burden for so long, I lost track of my own life. My battles gave me a side of strength and pushed me to be the better person that I am today. Through all of it I moved forward until my purpose was succeeded. It was my junior year and I had started a ne...
A theory is a way organizing and systematizing what is known about a phenomenon. It is, in fact, “a rationalized set of assumptions or hypotheses that provides a person with tools that can be utilized to explain the past and predict the future” (Johnson, 2000). Therefore, theories provide direction and when tested and supported, can assist in expanding our knowledge.
Time flies so fast. Looking back, my high school is just like a movie, a lot of things happened. High School is four years of growing up and probably a time in your life where you go through the most changes. In high school you are able to discover yourself and find out who you are as a person. Each year is special and unique in their own way. My journey through high school was a tough one, especially because I decided to not only focus on academic work but also to invest quality time in extra curriculum activities. I wanted more than just academic excellence; I wanted to be a leader, I wanted to add value to every aspect of my life, I wanted a rounded education and not just mere schooling. My success story is what I will like to share with you; how I really made it and how this defines my personality. My journey in High School was scary, exciting, and successful.
To be the person that I am now, I had to reflect and accept accountability of my past actions. My past is one that many would love to erase from their memory, a past, which remained dormant, until I found myself. The steps involved in regaining myself encompassed letting go of my anger and self pity. I had to look within myself and see my self’s worth, which lead to my belief that I ran away to college to forget my past. During the years leading to entrance to college, I became caught up with friends, cared way too much about my appearance, and became “that girl” who needed others to be happy. I lost sight of my goal, to become a lawyer. My goals were buried by my present materialization infatuation, thus my dreams, and my values, failed just to create a façade of which I came to despise. Through my journey and reflection, I came to appreciate family values and redemption. Like others, my trials and tribulations came full circle.
