Inspiration is a powerful word. Sometimes all it takes is a little inspiration to change your life forever. A couple years ago my mom became very ill. She had numerous tests, surgeries and nights spent in the hospital. It was difficult for me, a twelve-year-old at the time, to observe. My mother thought it was the end. But then, she discovered what had been ailing her. Through trial and error she determined that her sickness was caused by food allergies. Not a single doctor had tested her for allergies. This experience has become the key to my motivation. I want to become an individual who could save someone’s life. This has enabled me with multiple opportunities to demonstrate leadership. For example, I have been nominated to be team captain and or an officer in numerous activities and for multiple years such as: cross-country, basketball, and National Honor Society. These opportunities have played a major role in making me the person I am today. Leadership has taught me how to communicate. I have also learned how to be a team player. I am a strong believer that high school sports and activities teach many life lessons that will make an individual successful in the future. I have also demonstrated much community involvement throughout high school. Every Sunday, I volunteer in the children’s nursery at church. Annually, I sing at our sponsored Women’s Club Christmas Pageant. During the summer, I work as a lifeguard at the Ainsworth City Pool. On the side, I hold private swimming lessons with approximately four to eight children of all ages during the summer months. I have learned how to budget and manage money throughout this experience. This has also taught me how to handle some sticky situations. I have learned how to handle certain affairs if a parent is upset and or concerned. Throughout the year I have also volunteered at our local blood drive. This has also been a great experience. College is a word that is constantly being used more and more in my vocabulary this year. My parents have always taught me to shoot for the stars and to never settle. My dad never attended college. He has always talked about how it was a missed opportunity. My mother attended and graduated from college. She has been a vast encourager for me throughout my life to go to college. All in all, I have always known that I will attend college. In a constantly advancing world, I cannot see an individual becoming successful without a college education. I want to set myself up to be as successful as possible. I know that going to college and achieving a bachelor’s degree will provide a comfortable and happy life for myself. Not attending college would be a missed opportunity for anyone. I for one, will not miss this
