The thought of community service was boring to me before I began my volunteer work. I was fearful starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. I used to do community service with a group of friends in high school, I was afraid here because it was my first time working alone. I was scared of not being able to make any friends because socializing with other people is my weakness, although I can understand and speak a little Bahasa Indonesia. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it done. To my surprise it was not what I expected. On the 14th of September 2017, when I worked at the paddock for the second time, though I was lost on what to do at the beginning, I managed to do what I am supposed to do – putting the keys of the cupboard back in the following order and my partner, Sandhya was to click check out in the computer. In the same week, on the 16th of September 2017 (Saturday), it was my first time tutoring too and I planned way earlier on the topics I was supposed to teach which is ‘Conversation’. I have to admit I was pretty nervous in the beginning, thinking what would happen anything goes wrong. At the end of the day when I finished tutoring, I realized it was not that bad at all and I looked forward to tutoring the following week. On the 5th October 2017, it was my turn on the paddock again, and I noticed that there is barely anyone who came in to check in their bags, so it means no work for me. On the 21st of October 2017, the topic I had to tutor is “Continuous past present tense” and as I was observing her while she answered the questions, I realized that she’s good in writing compared to speaking, so we practiced speaking using the continuous present tense examples I gave her and boy it is satisfying to see someone you tutored finally understanding what you have been trying to say. On the 26th of October, when I was working in paddock, it was almost 9 pm and I noticed that majority of the ITC freshmen students are there printing Dr. Holler’s assignment due the next day in the morning. Never have I seen people lining up to print something and all of them were ITC students. It’s wrong to procrastinate but I felt relieved knowing that I’m not the only one who hasn’t printed it yet.
