In the third grade, I was the tallest girl in my class. Being born tall is normally considered a blessing; however, I was not only the tallest girl in my class, but the tallest kid in the entire third grade. A part of me liked being tall and all, but at the same time I also had hair dripping down my chest, and breasts, and I was only ten years old.
Everyone hears about cancer ruining the lives of young girls, but no one ever hears about the girls whose pituitary glands are leading a rebellion against their youth. I became the victim of medical mayhem which resulted in my skin full of needles, and numerous hours spent in my favorite blue waiting room chair. I was forced to miss school to lie on my back while the physician's educated me on why my bones are ten times their normal size. I was forced to ditch birthday parties, family gathering and my eighth grade graduation because my endocrinologist thought I deserved hormone stabilizers instead of birthday cake. I was forced to grow up just so the doctors could inject me with an elixir intended to slow down my growth. …show more content…
