My Clinical Experience Essay

This week’s clinical is full of mentally conflicts. First of all, I am excited to have one day of clinical for this week, so I can have more time to study for the exam that is coming up next week. On the other hand, I don’t want to lose the opportunity to learn new skills from my clinical day. Finally, I have been thinking about my patient from last week every day, I don’t know whether I get to see them again this week. One is when feeding patient, it is very important to make sure the patient is not having the potential of aspiration. When patient cannot use their hands to adjust the flow of the liquid or food that goes into their mouth, it is very easy for them to choke. I needed to make sure that the patient’s head is at 90 degree to help them facilitate the liquid or food down. Just like I have learned from my textbook, I needed to stop feeding until the patient have swallow the liquid or food safely before I continues with the next feeding. This action will ensure my patient’s safety because ensure patient’s safety is one of the important task for a nurse.
