Personal & Professional goals
I’ve been working in the screen printing industry for the last ten years. I’ve learned many different aspects of the screen printing industry: clean screens, degrease screens, coat screens, and expose screens. Then, I learned quality control, shipping, and receiving. Also I learned how to give price quotes. With other’s support, I became a screen printer, then production supervisor. I was in a place in my life with a seasonal job and little education. I enrolled at San Antonio Community College for the Fall Semester 2013 and began to set goals.
With limited graphic design skills, I decided to pursue a major in communication and design. I wanted to become a graphic designer. I wanted to learn another aspect of the screen printing industry by creating and separating vector art. With having a screen printing background and graphic design experience, this could help market myself to employers because I would know how to do the art work and screen print. However, after doing research I realized that becoming a graphic designer takes a lot of skills and practice, and is extremely competitive. Graphic designers do have one key advantage which is becoming a freelance graphic designer this allows an extra income.
I wanted more opportunities; I decided to change my major to a Business Major. I feel this will help me in several ways. This opens the door for management positions in restaurants, or a warehouse, even becoming a plant manager, or a marketing manager. The potential of owning my own business is also an option.

I came to college because I wanted to make more money. However, I am learning to change myself. With an education and the tools I am receiving, I feel I am reaching my goals. I am becoming a better leader, an objective writer, and better communicator because I am learning to use correct grammar. With countless goals to achieve, I will always believe in myself when no one else does; I will always remain patient and never give up. Education has played a significant role in both my immediate and long term goals. Without an education I would not be able to reach my long term goal to become an Occupational Therapist. Are you not satisfied with your jobs pay or your career choice? Chances are, you may not have gone to college. Not everyone is able to go to college and some that were lucky enough to go to college are probably satisfied with their life. People may go back and forth on the topic “Is college education valuable?” College gives us choices about our career and lets us explore new waters, ensures a better future, and lastly college teaches us lessons ordinary books cant in the practical field. College is valuable and there is no doubt about it. A college education is your crowning glory.
My present interest in art is more graphic/typography based, although I do enjoy all areas of art. I have been designing graphics on my computers from a young age and have work published in national magazines. Not all the graphical work I do is computer based, I enjoy using traditional mediums in a clean graphical way, as I find it more satisfying working on a larger scale and producing something more "real". My current course has helped me "branch out" more; I have experimented in many disciplines successfully producing paintings, pastels and drawings, which I had never really developed fully before.
In conclusion, my dream is to become successful in college and benefit from college skills that will help me reach my future goals. However, I may have to be prepared for the obstacles that I might encounter, and learn to overcome them. Much of my success will depend upon my willingness to seek advice from experts and professors. I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.

There is this saying, “Everything happens for a reason” and I believe certain things do. I believe that everything I have gone through my life has been preparing me for the beginning of a great career. This world can be a scary place, but there is also beauty in this world with lots of opportunities, and people who want to help make a difference. I want to be one of those people who inspire others to do better, to guide them and to teach them to not give up. If it was not for my counselors and mentors I would not be where I am at today. I was able to accomplish one of my goals of being the first in my family to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from CSULA. I want to further my education to better myself, and help others along the way.
I began my college experience studying radio and media, moved on to screenwriting and creative writing, but found myself discontent and misplaced with those industries. The more I questioned myself, the more I realized that the thing I wanted to spend my life doing was teaching and helping others. I did not accept this at first, but as I explored other career paths, I realized that this is what I was meant to do. Educational Goals: Education is extremely important part of my past, present, and future goals. I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design Media. I have found that an A.A.S Degree does not go as far al I originally intended in the Rochester, MN area and furthering my education will be a necessity for my future career goals. Over the past 2 years I have been working on my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the Minnesota School of Business Rochester campus. I am currently a senior with 3 quarters left before a spring graduation. After a June graduation, I plan on taking a summer quarter break. After summer break I will either continue on at MSB for my Masters in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing or transferring the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Adult Education. After my Masters Degree is complete I will decide at that time if I wish to continue on and achieve my Ph.D.
My education journey has been through some setbacks, but I have continued to push forward and conquered. I have felt that I have a fixed mind set and just am not capable of achieving some things. After learning the difference between growth and fixed mindset I have realized that everyone is capable of learning anything through hard work and dedication.
My educational journey has been like a roller coaster. I have been in the worst spot of my life time. Where I hate going to school but, also think about my father education. My career goal is one of my most important in my life to better myself than I am today tomorrow I will better than yesterdays.
