Personal Narrative: My Career Choice

Making a decision about a career is very difficult for some people. People may pick one career and years later go back to school to get a different degree. The values of our parents also shape what we want to do. For most people, there parent 's are role models and children desire to follow in their footsteps. I did not want to follow my step-mother or fathers career path. I learned to be hard working and perseverance from them. My career decision was influenced by my psychologist at the time. She was my role model. I lived with my step-mother since I was eight years old. My dad was granted custody of me, but had encounters with legal issues. He was sentenced to prison for twp years. My step-mother (I refer to her as my mother), overcame a long battle of gaining custody of my sister and I. I was eight years old when my mother (Colleen) was working at a law firm office in town. She was an account and manage all of the company 's money. She stayed with the company for five years. The administration began demanding, she hide money. As I thought about it helping people and making people happy were two underlying themes of my career choice. Quen had a huge impact on my decision, because I saw how much she affected me. She helped me when I thought no one cared or that no one wanted me. She was a crutch for me understanding what I went through and how I can be better than parents. I felt a strong desire to help people and to be that one person they can go to for support. My personality always fits this career. I am very observant and have a gentle way of asking questions to get the person to think. Those qualities are perfect for the age group I want to work with. I think my past experiences with issues have also made me want to help others. If I can help one person and make a difference in there life throughout my career, than I will feel
