Have you ever thought how your interaction with music is?
I came from a country that most of the population is Christian. My family is Methodist and there are a lot of musicians, composers, etc. All of them influenced me to create a passion for music. I started singing in a chorus for teenagers where I used to sing soprano and by the time I switched to contralto.
For me, music is life, and it is a way to express people’s emotions such as happiness, sadness and so on. For example, my country (Angola) was colonized by Portugal from 1484 to 1975, so Angolans used music as a way of expressing their discontentment against the colonial regime. Also, Music can change the way a person feels inside, even the deepest of the heart.
Music is a kind of art that we cannot touch, but at the same time it can touch us and can be felt. For me music is more than just an art, music is connected with everything like our body, soul and emotions. For instance, before I arrived in USA, I did not speak nor understand English, but the power of music made me feel like I could understand the songs in English. The melody made me feel the happiness or sadness that the music transmitted to me.
Music can be a medicine because it can help people feel better and have hope for life. For instance, I was depressed because I was facing many problems in my life. I just wanted to give up everything and go back home. I felt too small without straight to fight against my depression and problems. They were over my head and I also lost my faith in God. When I thought everything was lost, I decided to listen gospel music. The lyric of the songs made me think differently and I started believing that I was not alone and that God is always there for
