Diversity in the workplace
With market globalization and international competition, firms have come to realise that a diverse workplace is a strong competitive advantage in today’s markets. It helps to attract a diverse customer base and provides new perspectives in an organization. We see diversity initiatives being implemented to improve corporate productivity and performance.

Diversity is the piece that makes the modern workforce so amazingly unique and challenging at the same time. Valuing diversity means creating a work environment that respects and includes differences, recognizing the unique contributions these differences can bring, and maximizing the potential of all employees and the company. In The Loudest Duck, the author describes what often happens when diverse individuals enter the modern diverse workplace. Liswood gives great examples, analogies and shares simple insights into the hardships of bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to accomplish goals. The main emphasis is put on recognizing that diversity strictly by statistics of different races and/or genders present is insufficient.

Diversity is one of Rutgers greatest strengths, and I hope I can immerse myself into the many cultures at the university. I want to remove myself from my current familiar situation, and surround myself with a more diverse community. I currently attend a college where 80.2% of the student population is white. I walk around the College of Charleston, and everyone looks and dresses the same. I think it is important to recognize, value and respect other cultures to grow as a person, and I know I will have the opportunity to do so if I get accepted. According to the Rutgers diversity statistics of 2015-2016, only 41.5% of undergraduates are white, and the remainder are Asian, Hispanic, African American, and international students. With students from 63 countries, I will have the opportunity to interact with and learn about the experiences and perspectives of individuals and groups from many cultural backgrounds.

I’m tired of looking at the next person and wishing I was in their position. I’m tired of making excuses and pitying myself while letting opportunities slip away. From this moment onward, I am throwing away self doubt in order to take the coming steps in my life at Rutgers University. A Rutgers degree would not only mean a top tier education from one of the best schools in the world, more importantly, it would give me stability and a platform to go after my dreams. Through adversity and personal struggle after graduating high school in 2015, I have made an effort to never take opportunity lightly again. As a transfer student, It would be a humbling experience to learn new concepts and ideas while connecting with the diverse student

In a world that has grown increasingly smaller due to mass media, world travel, and readily available information, the workplace has grown increasingly diverse in both gender and cultural aspects. Individuals no longer live and work within the confines of their geographic locations. At almost any position with any company the individual employee is a part of a larger world economy that harvests assets from the ends of the earth. Because of this, companies seek to capitalize on diversity to become more creative and flexible in their business models.
The impact of diversity in the workplace is contingent upon several factors. Across companies diversified workforces are becoming increasingly common. To successfully manage a diverse workforce, organizations are ensuring that employees understand how their values and stereotypes influence their behavior toward others of different gender, ethnic, racial, or religious backgrounds; are gaining an appreciation of cultural differences among themselves; and behaviors that isolate or intimidate minorities are being improved (Noe et al., 2010, pg. 302).

Making sure all members, students, parents and guarding’s are welcomed at all times in a well-mannered environment Workplace diversity is important within the organization as well as outside ensuring all different are put aside and everyone can come together and work well as a great team.
Diversity is all around us and how organizations deal with the notion of diversity can be complex and quite diverse. It’s how the organizations live up to what they believe in and must go above and beyond legal compliance and requirements to promoting diversity and inclusion. Otherwise, employees may view the organization's vision and policies as lip service and only be tolerant of diversity because the organization said so.
