Multicultural Tradition: Pursuing The American Dream

An American tradition is what one can refer to as a multicultural tradition. It is very diverse but unified. Why? One may ask why I conclude such an oxymoronic definition of the American tradition against a basic, crystal clear definition. It is simply because overtime, the American tradition has grown to incorporate vast and diversified traditions due to the varying ethnic groups found within the nation. This phenomenon came to be as a result of America becoming a melting pot of culture sparked by mass emigration that promotes unity in diversity.

Thanks to Hollywood, Immigrants come to the United States for the sole purpose of chasing the American dream based on movies they watch what they see in the media. A few of them come here thinking that they can achieve what they want at the snap of a finger forgetting that the top of the ladder of success is very hard to reach and also very easy to fall from. Because of hopelessness and lack of determination to keep striving we find that about half of the immigrants end up being disappointed because of the socioeconomic tradition which makes the American dream almost impossible to achieve because, “the United States seems to cherish an image of itself as a country of opportunity for all, a country that invites in the world’s tired, its poor, and its huddled masses” (Clark). This problem often occurs because there are not enough resources to take care of the large population. Most of the immigrants find themselves stuck in poverty or at most, the middle class since “the truth is that the American Dream was always an illusion. Blindly pursuing that dream now will only lead to a future with dire social challenges” …show more content…

In the world today, men and women are supposed to be equal in terms of rights and duties to the country but the tradition that in a married household, a woman should be the one to stay home to do chores and look after the children still stands rigid. Perhaps, certain principles are meant to be strict rather than be a little more accepting. In this generation, it is normal to have tattoos and piercings as people can now casually call them body art , whereas a couple of decades back, tattoos were completely discouraged as people were keen on appearance and preserving one’s body in its natural state. Another issue which has kept people on their feet is the issue on interracial relationships. Although this seems to be normal now, people may still find it hard to come to terms with, as the world is rapidly blending. In my opinion at the rate in which the interracial relationships are going, soon there will be no white or black leaving the whole world to be occupied with a large number of beige colored
