The film ‘Dangerous Minds’ directed in 1995 tells the story of an ex-marine, LouAnne Johnson taking upon a new teaching career. The Academy class she teaches are composed of teenagers from the Hood whom are reckless, misbehaved and difficult to discipline. The film narrates the journey of LouAnne and her students gaining trust from each other in conquest of overcoming obstacles and challenged in life. Through the film, despite the trust that LouAnne had with her class, fate played a stronger role in determining the consequences of one her student, Emilio's, death. The precursor to Emilio’s death were not influenced by LouAnne but by Mr Grandey, society and Emilio himself. One of the leading factors to Emilio’s fate; his early grave, was Mr Grandey. Mr Grandey is the principle of the Parkmont High School, the school Emilio attends. Mr Grandey is ignorant to his students and does not bother to investigate further into their wellbeing. People from the Hood are trapped in a cycle made by society. It is a never ending cycle of drug abuse, illegal commitments and violence in which people from the Hood use to survive living in those conditions. Featured songs such as Coolio’s Gangsters Paradise sings of ‘the shadow of the valley of death’ where people have to ‘watch how [they] talkin’ and where [they] walkin’. The song also mentions of seeing ‘pistol smoke’ referring to the people of the Hood killing for money. The song reflects the daily struggle of those whom live in the Hood; the methods they are forced to use in order to survive the broken lifestyle. Emilio was unfortunately raised in the Hood society and had to suffer its consequences. He comes from a ‘broken and home and [they’re] poor.’ Due to the poor insufficient living conditions of the Hood, Emilio’s family like many others within the community are struggling financially and emotionally due to stress of getting
