Pride and Prejudice Journal #1: Task 3 In the first couple chapters of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen there are more than just one main character at this point, but the character who the focus is on the utmost is Mr.Bingley. This story takes in the early 1800s, in this era of time first impressions were everything. Vast majority of the population wanted to make good impressions, including Mr.Binley. Mr.Binley had just moved into a nearby estate, upon his arrival it was said that he was a single man of large fortune. Based on the first few chapters of the book my impression of Mr.Bingley is that he is a polite and respectful gentlemen who takes pride in manners and maturity and who is not afraid to mingle with the crowd. “he was lively and unreserved, danced every dance, was angry when the ball closed so early….Such admirable qualities must speak for themselves.” (Austen 16) This quote represents how much Mr.Bingley enjoys the company of others and meeting new people as he was disappointed that the ball was over. Him dancing every dance shows that he is well experienced in sizable groups and makes himself noticeable with his strong social skills. "To the civil inquiries which then poured in, and among which she had the pleasure of distinguishing the much superior solicitude of Mr. Bingley, she could not make a very favorable answer." (Austen 41) This quote illustrates how other characters view him positively and reflects on his level of maturity and his first-class manners. Other characters adore talking to Mr.Bingley and find it simple to talk to him because of his charming personality. "Mrs. Bennet began repeating her thanks to Mr. Bingley for his kindness to Jane, with an apology for troubling him also with Lizzy. Mr. Bing... ... middle of paper ... ...ions. The strengths of the book is the author lays out in detail how society and life was for those who wouldn't know a lot in that topic, and how every theme in the story relates each other. For example the theme of “wealth” relates to the theme of “class” in the way that the wealthier the family is the higher level of class they have, both these themes also relate to the larger theme of “marriage” in the sense that a woman is looking for a man with large fortune to secure her financially and a man with a high level of class to be involved in exclusive balls and get togethers. I would recommend the book to teenagers because it includes a lot of drama based events that teenagers deal with on a daily basis of who is dating who and who likes who. For that reason it will keep the targeted audience intrigued and on their toes about what is going to happen next.
