A volcano is a large hill, with a crater or vent for lava to flow through. Volcanoes can have a lifespan of a couple months to a couple million years. They are one of the most dangerous natural disasters. An erupting volcano can cause other natural disasters. Such as tsunamis, flash floods, and earthquakes.
One of the most famous volcanoes is Mt. Saint Helens. This volcano is still active to this day. On may 18th, 1980 a huge volcanic eruption happened at Mt Saint Helens. The eruption was the most significant eruption in the contiguous 48 U.S. states. It has often been declared the most disastrous volcanic eruption in U.S. history.
