After reading the two short stories “The Most Dangerous Game,” By Richard Cornell, and “The Cask of Amontillado,” By Edgar A. Poe and comparing and contrasting the two stories I believe that General Zaroff is the more evil person. To begin with, he killed more than one person just for the fun of it. Next, in his so called “game” he cheated. Finally, he did give a decision to the people but the decision wasn’t really fair. For these reasons I believe the Zaroff is the more evil according to the definition of evil; profoundly immoral and malevolent. First, Zaroff is the more evil person because of several reasons. He killed more than one person and he did it just because he wasn’t satisfied with regular game and it wasn’t making him happy anymore
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter. He was on a yacht that crashed and he was the only survivor. The island that he swam to was named “Ship Trap Island.” This where General Zaroff lived. He is also a hunter. He has hunted anything you can think of. Even… people. He has the survivors from the ship wrecks “play” his “game.” The survivors go out into the jungle and General Zaroff goes out and finds them. They have three days to survive. If they don’t get caught in those three days, they win. If they lose… they are killed. This happened to Rainsford. Rainsford, thankfully, won the “game.” He shot General Zaroff after his win.
Zaroff and Gradwitz both hunted humans. Zaroff hunted humans on his own island, while Gradwitz hunted in his forest that he owned. Zaroff only hunted humans that came to his island. Gradwitz hunted his enemy if they came to his land. The two guys both hunted humans on their own land.
The conflicts in both story's end very different message; "I sent a man up five years ago for murder. He was so poised to hang, nut pup north they commuted it to his life. Now his free - I don't know how. Anyways, it looks like he's coming back." ( formen 295) Those are the words of will khan. The conflict in high noon is frank Miller is loose and is coming back to get revenge on Khan for sending him to jail. However in "The Most Dangerous Game" the story is ending out a different conflict. "It's a game you see." Zaroff is a like to hunt humans for fun and it's a game to him. Zaroff is a very skilled hunter that has gotten tired of hunting animals because he says that their not challenging to hunt. So he turns to humans to hunt for his amusement.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter. He was on a yacht until he fell off the boat. He swam all the way to shore because Rainsford heard three gun shots. He walked upon a gigantic mansion. This house was for a man named General Zaroff. He was an hunter just like Rainsford in a hunt , but hunted humans instead of animals. General Zaroff wanted to kill Rainsford in a hunt with the General. Also, the General threaten Rainsford if he doesn’t hunt with him; he will be sent with Ivan.

In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, there are two main characters, Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. The story starts off with Rainsford and Rainsford’s hunting partner, Whitney, on a yacht heading to Rio de Janiero to hunt big game animals. Rainsford ends up becoming trapped on Ship-Trap Island, and that is where he and the reader are introduced to General Zaroff. Unfortunately for Rainsford, General Zaroff is not your normal General. General Zaroff and Rainsford are similar and different in many ways, and even though Rainsford believes that Zaroff is a sick individual, at the end of the story he becomes more like Zaroff than he realizes.

In the end, he wins the game and will continue to hunt animals, but not people, as the general once did. He will continue to hunt because one, hunting means everything to him. Two, he will not continue the general’s crazy ways, and resort back to the legal and non-dangerous to other humans sport. Third, he feels powerful when he becomes the hunter and not the hunted. Giving up hunting would be like giving up his life, so just because of a minor block he had to overcome, he will not give up hunting.
To begin with, Zaroff considers himself as a civilized person because of the various quotes from the story. For example, “Oh yes,.. I have electricity. We try to be civilized here.”(Pg 50). From this we can infer that Zaroff has many uses for his electricity, but in the wrong way in people's mind. First off, he used the electricity to show sailors that there is a blatant channel marker to get hunters and sailors on the island. This is how Zaroff gets his victims, this is how Rainford and his crew
Ulrich Von Gradwitz and General Zaroff got some similarities but they have differences too these two are from two different stories Ulrich Von Gradwitz Is from the story of the interlopers and General Zaroff is from the most dangerous game story. General Zaroff lives in a mansion on an island. He has a messed up mind. He likes to hunt, but he doesn't like the same hunting as others he likes different type of hunting, he really likes challenges. He likes stuff to challenge his mind, and also will shoot boats out of sea. He welcomes people into his home clothes and feed them. But there is a twist to it, he will not call for help. "You'll never hang me! I'll be back! I'll kill you Kane! I swear it, I'll kill you!" (Foreman 68). This quotation from High Noon was Frank Miller, the villain, swearing that he will kill Kane for sending him up to be hanged. Miller had committed murder, so it was justifiable when Kane arrested him and sentenced him to death because he was doing it to protect his town. However, it is not justifiable when Frank Miller comes back to the town to kill Kane because he is doing it out of revenge. "Hunting? Great Guns, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder" (Connell 12). This quote from The Most Dangerous Game means that Zaroff is not in the right when he is hunting and killing people on his island because murdering people for your own enjoyment is terrible. However, Rainsford killing Zaroff at the end of the story is justifiable because he is using self-defense, and he is also protecting others by not having them go through his horrifying experience on the island. General Zaroff was a war general who escaped to the caribbeans. He found pleasure in killing others as a sport. In WW1 the Russians were killing the Germans and Austrians. This could have triggered why Zaroff likes and thinks killing others is okay. “So I bought this island, built this house, and here I do my hunting. Both Rainsford and Zaroff are very competitive. Sanger Rainsford refuses to give up, and stays calm. Zaroff is overly proud and loves to win, he shows it when he smiles and says “to date I have not lost”. Throughout the story Zaroff constantly has the upperhand, they are playing cat and mouse. Rainsford has the ability to turn the tables and in the end make Zaroff fear for his life.
G. Zaroff is a cruel person because instead of hunting animals, he hunts humans and does not care for the value of life. He displays this quality when he tells Rainsford “I refuse to believe that so modern and civilized a young man as you seem to be harbors romantic ideas about value of human life. In this quote he shows his cruelness because he doesn’t care about humans but himself. He also doesn’t care for the value of human life.
