Morality of Abortion
My topic is the Morality of Abortion. My stand in this essay is an extreme anti-abortion position. I will be defending this by arguing, first that human life is not depicted by development but by genetics. Secondly, no circumstance can bring justice to abortion.Thirdly, that abortion is not only unsafe for the unborn child but also for the women receiving the abortion.
When does life begin? When starting this topic, one must start by first asking, when does human life begin? The common circumstances brought up are rape and deformities. When looking at the percentages of abortions, rape only accounts for 1%. (Abortion) When one thinks of rape, one might think of it as being violence upon an innocent life. When one thinks of abortion, the definition of rape fits perfectly. After a woman is raped, they seek comfort and healing but an abortion does not supply the woman what she truly needs. In this situation, violence has already been imposed on one life, why does another life need violence imposed also? A situation like this is when one needs to ask the question, does two wrongs make a right? The next circumstance brought up is deformities / disabilities discovered in a pregnancy. Again, we look at the percentages of abortions and we can see that deformities account for only 6%. (Abortion) Should we really abort a pregnancy because of disabilities? The argument brought up by Pro-Choice is that aborting a child under these circumstances as an act of kindness for the child to not live, instead of living with disabilities. An infection happens from 1 in 4 women to 1 in 50 women. After an abortion a laceration of the Cervix can happen. This causes you to have nearly a 50/50 chance of miscarrying in your next pregnancy if it is not treated properly during that pregnancy. A high incidence of cervical damage from the abortion procedure has raised the incidence of miscarriage 30-40% in women who have had abortions.(AbortionFacts) Another health complication is breast cancer, which medical research shows, that there is a 50% chance of occurring in a woman who has had an aborted pregnancy.(AbortionFacts) The physical dangers are evident but also are the emotional dangers of having an abortion. The argument Pro-Choice advocates use is that when a woman aborts her pregnancy, she is able to relieve herself from the responsibility of caring for a child. Since the
