Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi significantly impacted the world when he lead India through their civil right’s movement. He is believed to be the father of his country and is most credited for his peaceful protests. Along with helping India gain Independence, he made a large difference within the Caste System. Gandhi influenced many key leaders throughout his lifetime and his legacy continues to carry on long after he passed away (“Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi”). He was born into the Caste system where he and his family were labeled as traditional grocers (Franda, Marcus, and Vonetta J. Franda). Throughout his childhood, Gandhi experienced poverty at first hand. In his years at primary school, his class was held outside where they were able to practice the alphabet with their fingers in the dust. One of his terminal reports stated; “Good at English, fair in arithmetic, and weak in geography; conduct very good, bad handwriting” (“Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.”) At the age of thirteen, Gandhi was married by arrangement. He married a girl named Kasturbai Makanji who was also from a wealthy family. The ceremony was a large event that was very expensive. As a teenager, Gandhi initiated a rejection of his parents values. He began to smoke, and was one day convinced by a friend to try a dish that contained meat. When Gandhi turned sixteen, his father became ill and died due to an ulcer in his stomach. At the age of nineteen, Gandhi took a seven week boat trip to England so that he could enroll in law school. After a long year of hard work, Gandhi passed his final examinations and traveled back to India to begin his life as a working man. His trip back to India did not go as expected; He
