During a movie, many actions go unnoticed by the typical viewer. However, while watching a movie, many terms emerge that can label each dynamic aspect of a movie. Knowing and looking for these names can change a viewers experience into a form of acknowledging and appreciating the cinematic arts. Following terms such as panning, mise en scene, and zoom are some examples of these labels. These are just a few of many terms can be seen throughout one movie. One very powerful component of film is panning because of its ability to show off many details. Panning is a revolving horizontal movement of the camera from left to right or vice versa. Zoom gave the viewers the ability to see inside of the camera and fully understand the point of the scene. The ability to zoom cuts out the not needed details and in exchange helps us understand the main point. Besides zoom, the positioning, colors, and textures bring a frame together to bring the biggest effect that it can. Mise en scene is the arrangement of visual weights and movements within a given space. An example of mise en scene is during the very beginning of Gun Crazy, when the positioning of the textured rain and shattered glass adds to the dramatic feel of Bart stealing the gun. This is extremely effective because the way that a scene is portrayed is very important. With zoom and mise en scene together, the perfect scene can be filmed to not waste an inch on the screen. Catching a certain angle can pop certain aspects of a film. A tilted shot is a shot filmed while the camera is tilted on an angle. This is seen during the jail fight at the beginning in LA Confidential. This angle captures many fights that are happening during one single scene.
