Mint Chocolate Chip
The sun beams down on my pale face as I scramble across the scorching, burning sand. I put up a colorful umbrella and lay out my favorite beach chair. Sweat trickles down from my hairline to my neck, making me feel sticky with a slight cool sensation. I sit down, stretch out my legs, and dig in my feet until they reach cold, damp sand. The salty, humid air fills my nose as I stare out into the distance. I listen to the seagulls above me and the large, dark blue waves crashing on the seashore in front of me. My eyes slowly close behind my cheap shades while the calm wind gently blows away the excess heat from my body. I sit comfortably, while I rummage through thoughts that randomly come about. Around me, jealous children stare at my melting treat for a moment before running off to ask for some of their own. I clench tightly on the cone to make sure no accidents occur. The ice cream is the only thing I pay attention to. I observe the pretty, light green color and the several black chunks of chocolate spread out unevenly across the top. The ice cream slowly begins to melt and leak down the crispy, thin cone onto my hand. The sun continues to beat down on my raw cheeks and nose, making me want to run the ice cream all over my face. The flavor of mint fills my nose, making small chills run down my back. My empty stomach growls, knowing what is to come. Involuntarily, my mouth salivates and gives my dry, salty tongue some relief. They scream and scream like a baby crying for food. My mind no longer pays attention to the uncomfortable heat or the salty, humid air, because my entire body completely focuses on the delectable ice cream in front of me. I anticipate the moment that will put an end to my simple problem of dehydration and hunger. The smell of mint is stronger than before; almost as if I can already taste the ice cream.
