1.) What school activities have you participated in while middle school? In middle school I have participated in as many school activities as I possibly could. First of all, in 6th and 7th grade I was part of Student Council. In Student Council we worked on projects to improve the school, participated in community service, and fundraised to help others. One project I took a big role in was the Olympia recycles project. Secondly, I have been part of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) for 2 years now. Members of the National Junior Honor Society were chosen based on their outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Also, for 3 years now I have been part of the RIT program. I really like this program as it provides workshops that allow for development of new skills and are really creative of incorporating outside of school situations. Next, I was part of the Math League this current year. In the Math League selected students taking math classes of grades 9-12 represent their school and compete against other schools once every month. Team members each bring the team points individually and at the end of that semester there is a final meet in which awards are distributed. I would like to continue to be part of this program until the end because it was really fun and I had incredible successes. A school sport I have participated in is modified track for 2 years now. I really enjoy track, although I am not the best at sports I still like to get involved and I know I can improve. I look up to them because they are a more realistic example of my goals. They are really successful in school and I would like to be the same way. Although they aren't perfect they share the same life conditions with me and we have amazing memories together. As I previously shared, I am the president of middle school and a key reason I got interested in this role was because my oldest sister Gyuzel. She was the president of her class the junior year of highschool and shared her experiences with me. Also, my other sister Leyla has really encouraged me to join the math team. In fact, my first year of being in the math league I had overcome all 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders and being the only 8th grader on the Greece Olympia team I took the same tests as everyone else including my sisters and brought the most points to our school. So after participation of months I was awarded the certificate of being the most valuable math league member and proudly represented my school and family. I was the youngest math league member ever to get this award at Olympia and a important reason for that was that as 3 sisters we all supported each other and they were still proud of me, even though I got it and they didn’t. There personalities are another reason that makes them my role models. Last but not least, they both inform me about all the opportunities that are provided at our school and help me find ways to include those opportunities

    The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. School is an extremely important part of anyone’s life, and I feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to attend Lutheran schools from Kindergarten until the present. Our Shepherd Lutheran and Lutheran High Northwest have helped me to grow in my faith and to continue to grow academically as well. Attending these schools has also allowed me to participate in many different extra-curricular activities such as Varsity Soccer in my freshman year, Varsity Track my sophomore year, Pit Band for school musicals, Jazz band, and Pep band. This 2009-2010 school year I also have the opportunity to be the First Chair Flute and Piccolo in regular Concert Band and the other band functions which will provide me with an opportunity to gain experience in leadership which will help me in college and in my future career. Service is an important activity to participate in. During the past two years I have helped my mom and the rest of the committee at my church with funeral luncheons. When there is a funeral at my church the family of the deceased has the option of having a luncheon at the church, and if they choose, following the funeral, the committee that my mom is on takes care of getting the food that the family wants, serving the food, and then cleaning up after the luncheon is over. When they need help I also go and help out. Also, my family recently became a Foster family for the Michigan Humane Society. In November of this year, I am going on a mission trip to Madrid, Spain, with my cousin, who is a pastor, and a group from his church, Valley Springs, in Roseville, California. Our main aim is going to be talking to the college students there and trying to plant churches. We are going to be helping them work on their English, and I will get to use my Spanish. I have also had the opportunity to work in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer nursery which was my first paying job. Every Sunday morning I am in the nursery from 9 until 12, or later if needed, watching peoples children up to four years of age while they attend church.
