Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963. His family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, when he was a little kid.He was the fourth kid out of the five children, He has 2 older brothers, 1 older sister and 1 younger sister. Michael Jordan played baseball, football, & basketball at Esmley A Laney High School. He tried out for the varsity basketball team his sophomore year but he was cut from the team because he was too short and too small to play.

Jordan enrolled at the University of North Carolina in 1981 and joined the basketball team. In 1982 the team won the NCAA Division I championship. Michael Jordan later got drafted by the bulls in 1984. During his first season in the NBA he averaged 28.2 points per game. He became a fan favorite very quickly. Jordan was on Sport’s illustrated magazine cover. Michael was voted in as a all star starter during his rookie year. Some veteran players were jealous of the attention Jordan was getting from the fans and commentators.

During Michael’s second season it was cut short. He had broke his foot in the third game of the season. The injury caused him to miss to 64 games that season. During that time the bulls had the fifth worst record of any NBA team to qualify for the playoffs. Jordan recovered in time to play in the playoffs. He played very well upon his return from his injury. Michael set a record with 63 points in a playoff game.
The third season Michael’s career he recovered completely from his injury. He was the first other than Wilt Chamberlain to score 3,000 points in a single season. He also became the first player to have 100 blocks and 200 steals in a single season. The bulls advanced to playoffs but they sadly got swept by the Celtics in the first round.

Jerry Reinsdorf owned the White Sox and the Bulls and he still is the owner for both teams today. On April 8, 1994 Michael played for the Birmingham Barons. On November 1, 1994 the Bulls retired Michael’s jersey. In the ceremony it included a bronze statue dedicated to Michael called “The Spirit”.

On March 18, 1995 the NBA received good news, Michael announced his return back to the NBA. The next day, Michael put on jersey number 45 since his old number 23 was retired by the Bulls from his first retirement. He played very well during his first game back in the NBA although he hasn’t played the game of basketball in a year and a half. He made a game winning shot against the Atlanta Hawks during his fourth game back in the NBA.
