It is clear that meditation helps heal the mind and body from everyday stress and worries, but who knew it would be making such a huge impact on athletic performance! Meditation has without question EXPLODED into the world of sports. Professional athletes of all sports practice meditation to help them visualize themselves with perfect technique in order to replicate it over and over during games or matches. They also meditate to become more focused on the task at hand and athletes meditate to remove emotional influence from determining the players skill of play during that match. Focus: Meditation allows you to examine all of the possible factors that determine if the technique was done correctly. Visualization allows someone to replay their best technique in their head over and over to mentally prepare themselves to perform that technique during the game. Visualization techniques are taught by some of the worlds most successful life coach's like Tony Robbins who has helped many athletes get back to the top of their game after a slump in their performance. Pain: It also allows your mind to rest from the mental stress as well as the physical stress on your body. Much of the pain we experience is worsened by our exaggeration of the level of pain, making it seem like it is worse than it really is. With meditation, you become aware of the real level of pain by listening to what your body is telling you. It allows you to get out of that emotional state of mind to see what the real problem is. Once the real situation has been brought to light, you can then find the correct treatment to get yourself back on track again, and you can choose to shift your focus away from pain to another direction. Meditation gives you the ease of mind that you don't have to worry about the unknown. Because meditation allows you to become aware of the factors to success that you may not have known or considered before. When players would get into a slump, many times they wouldn't know how to fid their game. This would cause them to change factors that were once thought of as perfect technique, essencially causing them to completely re-learn a new technique. Having to completely relearn a new technique or an old one could take a competitive player out of the game forever. It would make sense to say that they will never be the same player again, because they aren't doing what they were doing anymore, they stopped doing what got them to the professional level. The key is to be confident in the technique that got the athlete to his highest point. There is a reason that that perticular technique worked so well for them. Perhaps it was a technique that best utilized the size of the players limbs or body, or it could be that it was a revolutionary new technique that no other player had seen before. Why would you give that advantage up, simply because you haven't been mentally prepared before a few matches. Meditation brings that confidence in the old technique back to the forefront. A great strategy is to close your eyes and see yourself using the technique that wins matches. Going through the body movements as if it were a game situation but while your eyes are closed. Visualizing youself using the technique that makes you feel at one with the world for this one moment in time. You
