The amount of bias used within media is baffling. Going through newspaper, after newspaper, readers will run into an abundance of bias that will persuade them into thinking what the writer or publisher would like them to. Bias is so finely knitted and embedded within media it is easily distinguished In almost every newspaper, magazine, news clip or televised commercial. It is a technique highly used across the world to get the majority of a targeted group to favor one or several things. I'm going to analyze two different articles based on the same topic to distinguish the different bias within media and compare the bias within the two. Senate to vote on Keystone XL Pipeline bill". In this article there are a few examples of bias such as bias through use of names, bias through source control, and bias through word choice. This article used bias through the use of names by putting "U.S. Senate" at the beginning of the headline. This is bias through the use of names because of the prominence the U.S. Senate has. This article then uses bias through source control because although there are facts within the article, the article isn't based on an event (event hasn’t taken place) and there for it is purely based off of the knowledge and opinion of the writer. For example, the writer knows that 60 votes are needed, the U.S. Senate is supposed to vote and when its happening, but everything else in between is the writers idea or opinion. This articles headline uses the bias of word choice which would also mean it is bias through the headline as well. The headline starts off as "U.S. Senate heads to vote". The reason why this is bias through word choice and headline is because you're persuaded to read it just because of how prominent the U.S. Senate is and the word choice also makes you think as if the U.S. Senate is heading to the vote to save the day. There is also bias through pictures in this article because there is a big picture of a bunch of protesters showing you how bad they think this plan is. It automatically makes you think that the pipeline is a horrible plan and that the U.S. Senate is definitely going to deny the bill.
