All throughout the history of American literature there has been a lot of remarkable authors that have made a great impact in today's literature, one of them being Samuel L. Clemens or better known as Mark Twain. Twain was born into a family of 7 in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835. The Clemens later moved to a small town Called Hannibal. Having 6 kids, his parents, Jane and John Clemens often found it difficult to keep up economically. John Clemens worked as a storekeeper, lawyer, judge and land speculator as it says on the website Biography. Unfortunately, Twain’s father passed in 1847, leaving Jane Clemens as the head of the house. It was published in 1884. As soon as the book got published it was banned from Concord and Massachusetts. Even today it remains banned from some public schools. The setting takes place in a slave holding culture. Since Twain spent so much time with slaves, he was familiar with them and their story. Mark Twain used his knowledge of slavery to write the book. For example in his book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, one quote that can be interpreted as Twain speaking of himself is “ yes, he's got a father, but you can't never find him these days. He used to lay drunk with the hogs in the tanyard, but he hain't been seen in these parts for a year or more." (Twain 2.13.) When Mark Twain was young he rarely saw his father since he was always busy working, so it can be said that Twain used this as a technique of his writings. Another quote that shows how Mark Twain, spoke about his life experiences is "It's a dead man. Yes, indeedy; naked, too. He's ben shot in de back. I reck'n he's ben dead two er three days.
