Marilyn Monroe had a difficult childhood. Born Norma Jean Mortensen on June 1, 1926 to a mentally unstable mother and absent father, she spent her childhood in a series of foster homes and an orphanage. Norma’s father is still unclear. Mother Gladys had married Martin Mortensen in 1924, although they separated in 1925, before her pregnancy with Norma. As Gladys was mentally and financially incapable of caring for Norma, she placed Norma with foster parents. Norma stayed until she was seven, but in 1933 her mother had bought a house and took Norma to live with her. Shortly after that she had a mental crises, Norma became a ward of the state. She was on several occasions sexually assaulted; later said she had been raped at the age of eleven.

She made 29 films, 24 in the first 8 years of her career. She appeared on 33 covers of national magazines. On July 23, 1946 she signed a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox Studios. She had a minor part in the movie “Scudda-Hoo! Scudda-Hay!” and was dismissed as a contract player in August. She was later rehired in 1948, sang her first song in the movie “Ladies of the Chorus”. Johnny Hyde became her agent and lover in 1949, also in 1949 Marilyn agreed to pose for her first nude calendar. “Hollywood is a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul”( a quote from Marilyn). The famous skirt blowing scene from the “Seven Year Itch” was a breaking point for Miss Monroe since this photo was on covers, billboards, and commercial, etc.
On August 5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her home in Los Angeles. She was discovered lying naked on her bed, face down, with telephone in her hand. Empty bottles of pills, prescribed to treat her depression, were littered around her room. Her death was caused by a self-administered overdose of sedative drugs and that the mode of death is probable
