I created a map of a school bus, labeling the bus windows with student passengers and an adult driver. I generated the map using Microsoft word, arrows, multiple colors, as well as various google images. I decided to create a vague map with an obvious bias since it’s from my personal point of view. I chose to include Steve Urkel as my representation of a nerd since he is a fairly popular television character. I used a picture of a child flipping the bird as my representation of the bad kids since using this offensive gesture is frowned upon in general. I used a girl with the devil and an angel and my representation of the neutral kids because I did not have a definitive stereotype for students who sit in the middle of the bus. I decided to use children from left to right and young to old respectively to show that students usually mature as they age. For example the word “nerds” can have both negative and positive connotations behind it. On one hand nerds can represent intellectuals. On the other hand it represents someone who isn’t popular in their social realm who may also get bullied. The colors of the map can also appeal to pathos. The color red can represent edginess and aggressive behavior which is used to label the “bad” kids. This goes back to connotations. “Bad” students usually have poor quality grades as well as behavior. On the other hand the “bad” students are commonly higher up on the school’s overall social hierarchy. The map appeals to pathos through the photos of the children. For example the bad kids are represented by child with obscene body language (flipping the bird). The collective images, colors, and connotations all work together to provoke a negative emotional
