Evil is an abstracted word but can best be defined as something that contradicts morality. However, morals and the concept of what is right differs throughout time periods, societies, and individuals. According to Machiavelli, deception and immorality are justified in situations where the positives of the final outcome outweigh the negative acts that lead to it. In contrast, Socrates was a proprietor of justice and serenity in a society. Nevertheless, both Machiavelli and Socrates strove to please the public.
