Tragic Hero Prefers Death To Prudence

“The tragic hero prefers death to prudence. “In the dramatic play, The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the main character known as Macbeth struggles with his conscience as he pursues his royal ambition to his death. Macbeth falls deeper and deeper into the strange sisters prophecies. As he faces this conflict and is mired in treachery, he becomes anti-heroic; the antithesis of heroic behavior. While heroes face selflessness and risk themselves to assist others, Macbeth’s purpose persuades him to commit vile acts of treason and betrayal. Over the course of the play, power is gained and it causes Macbeth to change from a devoted individual to cruel individual, leading to maliciousness. In human nature, everybody yearns for more ambitions. Whether it is a soldier who wants to be in one of the highest class or a child wants to be popular, it is clear that the human nature is for one to desire more power. In the play, Macbeth, mainly craved ambition. First, he was devoted to his king. Over the course of the play, power causes Macbeth to change from loyal to cruel which leads to his maliciousness. Macbeth’s first trait was being loyal in Act 1. Macbeth was praised as a hero for being courageous during a war. He made the King of Scotland proud and became the new Thane of Cawdor. In this case, Macbeth continues with his malicious actions. In Act 5, Scene 3, pages 2, lines 35-38, Macbeth states “I’ll put it on. Send out more horses. Skirr the country round. Hang those that talk of fear. Give me mine armor.” This quote showed that his malicious act caused him to fight through his terror. This led to his downfall; his death. After he became king, he lost the most valuable people in his life, such as his noblemen. Lastly, he falls to his death by having his rivalry slain
