Recommended: What influences Macbeth's actions
Macbeth’s strive for power affects every aspect of his life, and this motivation eventually leads to his demise. Many different factors play a pivotal role in deciding his ill-fated future. With his wife’s cajoling, and the three witches’ foretelling of his future Macbeth, will stop at nothing to gain position as King of Scotland. The witches and their prophecies are the first major influence on Macbeth’s actions. Macbeth, Thane of Glamis is content with his position, until the three witches tell him, "hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor, thou shalt be King hereafter." (I, iii.). After hearing this, Macbeth and Banquo, his loyal friend, find out that King Duncan has named Macbeth "Thane of Cawdor." They contemplate about how the rest of the prophecy will come true. The witches also advise them that Banquo’s son would be King one day. Macbeth writes a letter to Lady Macbeth explaining what has happened. Macbeth comes to the realization that for him to in fact become King, he will have to defeat recently named heir to the throne, Malcolm, the King’s son, and also prevent Banqou’s son from gaining access to the throne. Macbeth returns home and he and his wife must play host to the King. Lady Macbeth begins to contemplate what "impedes thee from the golden round" (I, v). She desperately wants her Macbeth to be King and she calls upon the "aids of sprits"(I, v) to help her in her quest for the throne. Lady Macbeth requests that the, "sprits that tend on mortal thoughts," to unsex her, and fill her with the "direst cruelty…" (I, v.). The supernatural world will aid her in the hardening of her heart and make it possible for her to carry out her malicious plan. Lady Macbeth wishes to throw out her morality for the sake of gaining a title. With the help of invisible sprits, she wants to make herself able to commit a heinous act of murder to make her dreams of the royal life come true, without having reservations or remorse. She approaches Macbeth with her intent to kill King Duncan. Macbeth, although wanting the prophecy to come true, and become king, lacks the enthusiasm as his wife does, to commit the murder. Lady Macbeth urges Macbeth to act on his desires or he will think of himself as a coward. King Duncan is invited to Macbeth’s castle, and it is there that he will be killed.
Because of the increase in population, products need to be manufactured in a faster and more efficient way, and with genetically modified foods, the food is larger in size and quicker to harvest. Another advantage of GM foods is that it uses less fertilizer and less water and is more resistant to insects, diseases, frost, and drought. Consumers would not want to eat food that has been treated with pesticides because of possible health hazards and growing GM foods can help eliminate the use of chemical pesticides. Plants that are genetically engineered to resist strong herbicide will help prevent environmental damage by reducing the amount of herbicides needed. This will benefit both the companies and the environment because the production cost is reduced and the danger of agricultural waste run-off is limited. As more land is being used for housing instead of food production, crops need to adapt to locations unsuited
There were several aspects of Shakespeare’s novel ‘Macbeth’ that led to the downfall of Lady Macbeth. The mentality of Lady Macbeth in the play changes dramatically from the wife a Noble General, to an evil aggressive murderer (brought upon by the witches predictions), and finally a woman who had de-graded to such an extent that she took her own life.
In Chinua Achebe’s novel Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo is a tragic hero. Aristotle’s Poetics defines a Tragic Hero as a good man of high status who displays a tragic flaw (“hamartia”) and experiences a dramatic reversal (“peripeteia”), as well as an intense moment of recognition (“anagnorisis”). Okonkwo is a leader and hardworking member of the Igbo community of Umuofia whose tragic flaw is his great fear of weakness and failure. Okonkwo’s fall from grace in the Igbo community and eventual suicide, makes Okonkwo a tragic hero by Aristotle’s definition.
Okonkwo crumbled under the newly developed society of the white man in Umofia. He could no longer act on his fury, vehemence or impetuousness, because acting in those non-compliant ways got him no further advancement and was frowned upon. Okonkwo lost his mental composure and everything in his life went to pieces because of it. His lack of sensitivity and understanding of those different from him handicapped his entire life. Okonkwo’s strength was further proven to have many fallacies because he was not strong in the important aspects of having composure and not acting on impulse. He could no longer control the people around him, nor his own life so he became misfortune of a classic tragedy.
Genetically Modified Organisms better known as GMOs; are organisms such as plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from other organisms in ways that would not occur naturally. GMOs are used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical drugs, agriculture, research and other experimentations in the medical field. The old common way for breeding of organisms takes plenty of human involvement; GMO’s can be created more quickly and precisely. Agricultural scientists have been experimenting with our food for centuries, that’s why most of the food we eat today cannot be found in nature.
In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth’s desire and ambition leads to her eventual downfall. When Lady Macbeth hears of Macbeth’s prophecy she dreams of the glory and high-standing that awaits being queen. She cannot withhold her ambitions and she is willing to manipulate fate to bring about Macbeth’s prophecy. She invokes evil spirits to be filled from head to toe with cruelty to do the evil actions necessary to make Macbeth king and to remove all remorse and pity for her action from her heart. She is initially able to be involved in the treacherous deeds that are needed to bring about the prophecy quickly, but as the play progresses the weight of the merciless deeds fill her with remorse. The remorse and pain she feels for her wicked ways cause Lady Macbeth to lose control of her life and wither away until the weight of her deeds causes her to die. Lady Macbeth’s wish is partially granted, her mind becomes evil and enables her to do horrific things, but her soul remains pure and unsure of her actions and her remorse for her wicked ways leads to her destruction.
GMOs are like a well developed plant, it is stronger and produces a higher yield. Over 90 percent of corn, cotton, and soybeans grown today have GMOs. Farmers use it for several reasons. One benefit of GMOs is weed control. By using GMOs, the plants become resistant to numerous pesticides and keeps weeds down (“Benefits to farmers,” n.d.). This is very helpful because now a farmer does not have to spray as much pesticides on the crop to control
Macbeth’s ambition to obtain power convinces him that it is his destiny to become King of Scotland, and that he should do anything to fulfill that destiny, even if it involves him committing tremendously immoral acts such as murder. After Macbeth realizes that the witches may actually speak the truth due to the second prophecy (Thane of Cawdor) becoming true, he begins to have an eerie and frightening thought of him killing his king and friend, Duncan, in order to ac...
Before Duncan had the time to reach Macbeth with the good news, the three witches approach him and Banquo. The greet Macbeth with three different titles: Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor and King Hereafter, but this confuses Macbeth. Not only do the witches tell Macbeth his future, they also tell Banquo that although he will never be King, his children will be… and then they vanish once again.
In the end Okonkwo was the same exact character throughout the entire story attitude wise. But in the end he sends a message to the reader, and that all what really matters. To conclude, everyone can have their opinions on whether Okonkwo is a tragic hero or not, but in the end it depends if the reader learns anything from it or not. People can argue with this, but what’s the point of there being a tragic hero if no point is getting across? Are they called tragic heroes because they learn from their mistakes? It is true, but they give out a moral even if they don’t learn anything. If only people will see that there’s more to tragic heroes and the stages themselves then what people actually think they
Genetically modified foods are exactly what they sound like. They are foods produced by organisms that have had certain changes in their DNA by utilizing genetic engineering. Ever since 1982, when the FDA approved the first GMO, genetically modified foods and organisms have been skyrocketing. In 1999, GMO foods and crops dominated the markets. The big question here is are GMOs harmful to us? If farmers are spraying their plants with pesticides that kill off weeds and bugs what do you think will happen over time to us humans who are consuming these foods? Although, GMOs have a few positive health benefits it also has several negative effects. One positive of keeping GMOs around is because they are insect resistant. Since they are insect resistant none of the crops can be harmed by pests therefore, can be harvested. Many regular grown crops, with no genetic engineering or spray, are lost due to insects eating them. The negative effects of GMOs outweigh the positive effects. One big problem with GMOs, is people are beginning to have allergic reactions to these crops. Another huge problem is antibiotic success is lowering. One last risk is transgenic DNA transferring. With 64 other countries requiring labeling of GM foods you’d think that the U.S would jump on the bandwagon. We should be given the information of what we're putting into our bodies.
Seeking for greater power, Macbeth murders Duncan who is the king at that time, which caused a great pain for the kingdom. Duncan is a great king, but just not a so good human reader. He has never been aware of Macbeth. He never have a thought that Macbeth might be a danger, who is willing to kill him for the throne. On the other hand, Macbeth does not accept to be just a general for the rest of his life. He wants a greater power, higher position than he is having at the time. Because of the suggests from the trio witches: “ All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!/ All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!”(1.2.49-50), Macbeth has the thinking about killing the king to take his throne. By calling Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor, they give Macbeth the thought that being a king is his fate. On the night Macbeth is planning to murder Duncan, the Old Man see many strange events: “And Duncan’s horses (a thing most strange and certain),/ Beauteous and swift, the minions of their race, /Turned wild in nature, broke their stalls, flung out/ Contending ‘gainst obedience, as they would/ Make war with mankind” (2.4.14-18). It creates a scary feeling in the kingdom, and means something bad will happen to the kingdom.
Well GMO’s allows food flavors to become enhanced because they are engineered, corn can become extra sweeter, peppers can become spicier, and the flavor can be enhanced without losing its nutrients. GMOs have better resistance to diseases, as well as pests. The GMO’s can allow plants have their own vaccine because a vaccine can be encoded into them genetically. Because of genetic modification the crops can be made to carry more vitamins and make it possible to increase the health of the people consuming the food. This benefit is especially important for food consumers in developing countries where people don’t always have access to essential nutritional resources. Since GMO’s will be cheaper countries that are currently suffering from starvation and malnutrition can afford to provide it people fresh food that they currently do not have access too. Seeds can be purchased by these underdeveloped counties and can be planted it the hottest area in the would and they can still grow. Using food that is alerted could also open up other nations and allow all of us to enjoy food that is produced and enjoyed in other countries and other countries can enjoy the foods that we have in this country. It may be possible that countries like Cuba could lift the food rationing that they currently use and the people of Venezuela could import food that their people can
Okonkwo, in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, was faced with many hardships in his life. When growing up he had to deal with a lazy father, then when he was older he had to kill a boy that called him father, and he also accidentally killed a young boy from his village. These events played a very tragic role in Okonkwos life.
One of the most important pros about GMOs that everyone is concerned about is that it will produce a longer shell life, which will make it safer to transport to different countries. GMOs can also supply more nutrients and help fight world malnutrition making it better for Americans to eat, by making it healthier. “Seeds are genetically changed for multiple reasons, which include improving resistance to insects and generating healthier crops. This can lower risk of crop failure, and make crops better resistant to extreme weather.” (Mandel).
