Diagnosed with lung cancer, now what!? Time to do some research. Lung cancer is the number one cause of deaths in males and females. The causes, diagnosis, and treatment of lung cancer have advanced recently with new technology available to scientists and the medical profession. Lung cancer develops when the cells grow abnormally and tumors form instead of healthy lung tissue. It can take place in one or both lungs, normally the cells that line the air passages. Not all tumors are cancerous, the ones that do not spread are benign tumors. The more tumors that develop in the lungs will cause the lungs to work less efficiently. The metastatic tumors spread to other parts of the body passing through the blood stream or lymphatic system. …show more content…

I have chosen to write about the constellation Cancer (The Crab). I chose Cancer because it is one of only a handful of constellations that I am actually able to identify in the night sky. Cancer is one of the twelve Zodiac constellations; people whose birthdays fall between June 21st and July 22nd have Cancer as their sign. Cancer is the Latin word for crab, and despite the fact that the constellation looks more like a lobster then a crab, it is still referred to as a crab. The constellation is visible from the northern hemisphere from late winter to early spring.
Lung Cancer can be defined as an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in either one or both lungs of an organism. These abnormal cells divide and multiply to create unhealthy tissue or tumors inside of the lungs. These tumors interfere with the lungs ability to deliver oxygen to the body.
According to “Medical News Today” cancer is a disease that is caused by an over growth of anomalous cells on one or more lungs. Cells often go up the air pipes which can cause difficulty to breath. Due to the over production of cells the tissue cells often begin to over produce; which results in tumors. There are two types of tumors: malignant and benign. Malignant tumors are the more dangerous of the two due to its invasive nature; which makes it cancerous. While benign is not invasive in other words non-cancerous. This is why cancer spreads to multiple areas and can be sometimes very difficult to fight. Cancer cells are abnormal not only because of their evasive nature, but also because of its irregular life cycle. Rather than expire like a regular cell, they continuously grow and duplicate which causes the disease to spread. This makes cell abnormal in shape and other qualities; known as a sickle cell. Due to the large growth and reproduction rate of the cells this makes the spreading of the cancer more rapid. Each cancer has specific symptom, for lung cancer the sympto...
Lung cancer screening tests are recommended only for adults who have no symptoms but may be at high risk for developing lung cancer. There are three things you should ask yourself before being screened for lung cancer, have you smoked in the past 15 years? Were, or are you a heavy smoker? Are you 55-80 years old? There are three risks of doing screening tests. One is that it can be said that someone has lung cancer, when no cancer is present, which may lead to unnecessary tests, and surgeries. This is called false-positive res...
Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer within the United States with tobacco smoking being the biggest risk factor. In 2012, more than 220,000 people were diagnosed with lung cancer and approximately 150,000 died from the disease. “Lung cancer rates in the United States climbed dramatically throughout much of the 20th century, as smoking became more popular, and peaked in the 1980’s before declining in the 1990’s” (Furlow, 2014, p. 298). Screening of high risk people for lung cancer has been extending patients’ lives with early detection with the use of computed tomography (CT).
In the early stages of lung cancer it is hard to detect the cancer. The cancer is silent and can grow and develop for years undetected. When the few symptoms...
Lung cancer has been around for hundreds of years. Lung cancer is also the most common cancer. Death is almost absolute if not caught in its early stages. Lung cancer is hard to find because there aren’t symptoms in the early stages. Lung cancer found early enough can be stopped before it spread to other parts of your body. This isn’t definite because cancer can be dormant until later in life and it can be worse than before. Lung cancer can be avoided if you if you make the right choices and take right
The leading cause of death in America is lung cancer. Lung cancer is ranked top 10 fatal cancers in the United States. There are many types of ways to get lung cancer. There is radon gas it occurs outdoors naturally. Then there is second hand smoke that comes from other people smoking. People are even getting lung cancer from cancer causing agents, this happens from carcinogens. You can also get it from air pollution indoors and outdoors. Also there are gene-mutations that form cancer causing cells. Then there is the one everyone blamed lung cancer is smoking.

Epidemiologists had identified many important causes of cancer by the early of 1980s. Many types of cancer vary in incidence by more than an order of magnitude between different populations and every type is rare in some part of the world. Many specific causes cancer are now known, the most common are by smoking, obesity and a few oncogenic viruses, but a large proportion of global variation for common cancers such as breast, prostate, colon and rectum remains unexplained (Peto J. , 2001). According to Richard Doll and Richard Peto, pollution accounts for 2% of all cancer cases and geophysical factors account for another 3% while 80% to 90% of cancers are caused by “environmental factors”. Environmental factors are the non-genetic factors which are smoking, diet, occupational exposure to chemicals and geophysical factors (naturally occurring radiation, man-made radiation, medical drugs and radiation and pollution.
Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lung. Your lungs are two spongy organs in your chest that take in oxygen when you inhale and release carbon dioxide when you exhale.
The type of cancer I decided to research was lung cancer because it was something that was interesting to me. It interests me because I know a lot of people that have smoked and have gotten this type of cancer. A few of the leading causes to lung cancer is smoking and environmental toxins. The types of smoking products that are used that can cause this type of cancer are ones you buy from the store or illegal drugs. There are different types of environmental toxins. If these types are ingested the result could be cancerous. These toxins include and not limited to; asbestos which is a type of insulation used in houses, carcinogens; toxins in cigarette smoke, and benzene; a toxin that is a natural part of crude oil and gasoline, etc.
When you are diagnosed with lung cancer you are more likely to be diagnosed in your 60’s or 70’s. Two out of three people are diagnosed with lung cancer in their 60 or older, less than 2 percent are younger than 45 years old. 20 percent of men are more likely to get lung cancer than women and women are 10 percent less likely to get lung cancer. More than 430,000 people today are diagnosed with lung cancer. Lung cancer has many different stages from stage one to stage four, the survival rate for stage one lung cancer is 52 percent and live 5 years after being diagnosed with stage one lung cancer, people who are diagnosed with lung cancer during stage two have a survival rate of 30 percent, people who become diagnosed with stage
My father suddenly developed a deep, scary cough unlike anything I had ever heard before. It wasn’t the kind of cough that comes with an ordinary cold. It was the kind of cough that makes anyone who hears it, even strangers who don’t know you nervous. It was a warning. An omen. We just didn’t know it yet. The cough persisted for months, and after an incorrect diagnosis of pneumonia, we finally learned that it was lung cancer.
Many people may have heard of lung cancer but do not know the specifics. The cancer comes in a few forms of which are all tumors. According to U·X·L Encyclopedia of Diseases and Disorder, “Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of malignant cells in one or both lungs. There are two major types of lung cancer, small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)” (pg. 670). Non-small cell lung cancer accounts for 85 percent of all forms of lung cancer. Small cell lung cancer follows with 10 to 15 percent and less than 5 percent are carcinoid tumors. Normal symptoms of
