With the economy ticking, most of them decide to say no to college and start working. Although they might get somewhere in life, it will be a harder pathway. Not everyone sees the value in continuing their education. Some other students have different view or boundaries. Some have family issues and need to help contribute financially within the family. Over the past years, getting a college degree has been the pathway to a settled career. College has been a reason for people to carry on after high school. First of all, many high school graduates cannot handle college. Isabel V. Sawhill and Stephanie Owen describe college as a place, “one can obtain a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree”. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. I chose this topic because education is all around me. I am literally surrounded by illiteracy. From the moment I leave my door, to the moment I return, I am able to witness illiteracy in my society. Therefore, I could connect well to this particular topic in detail. So many children younger than me, of my age and also people elder to me do not have access to education. Even though 86.1% of the world is illiterate (CIA World Factbook), the other 14.9% have absolutely no access to education!
Individuals in my generation that decide to go away for college may graduate with a degree, but they also graduate with debt and have a hard time finding work in their area of study. College graduates are young, and many may not have much experience in their field. It is a bittersweet option to go to college and further your education, I am all for it, but I am not for getting yourself in tons of debt, that will cause you to live your whole life paying off student loans and such.
