Meant to Fail
Everyday, everywhere rules make our lives structured. Maybe you are not noticing it, but we live in quite squared boxes formed by some leaders. Yes, you read it right, leaders. And luckily there is not just one person with leadership. Questioning why? Then it’s time to look at the story of lord of the Flies that gives excellent examples!
Lord of the Flies is a story about a group of schoolboys during a nuclear war that ends on a deserted island due to a plane crash. Just imagine the situation: being on an island where there is no way to escape, you do not know the dangers, and only with a group of unstructured boys. To me this sounds like madness. He trusts too many people and forgets that they all are kids, but not everyone is focused like him. The second bad thing was that his tribe split up when Jack told them to follow him. A true leader must keep his group together. He also lost himself one time and participated in killing Simon. No good leader would do that.
The other possible chief, that later became the chief of a tribe, was Jack. Jack is different than Ralph. When Ralph thinks they should care, Jack does not want to. Jack does not think about getting rescued, because he gets caught up in hunting. He said: “we’ll hunt, I’m going to be chief.” He is a person who leads like a dictator, but was not bad at everything he did. Jack wanted to look brave and strong. Jack’s group was more united than Ralph's tribe.
I think everyone can see why the group ended up as savages that killed each other. They needed someone or something with leadership qualities. Someone that keeps the group together, cared, was intelligent and knew how to listen. There just isn’t one person that has all of the qualities. In the story you can see Ralph needed to much structure but could not make it true. Jack on the other hand, was a bd leader because he did not know what priorities were. The plan they made was meant to fail. In my opinion they should have formed a democracy for more decisions. Also they should have listened more to Piggy. He was really smart and knew what to do. If they worked together, it could have been a winning
