The appaling imagery and word choice of Goulding shows the overall manifestation of the boys’ primitive nature, along with his own. Goulding uses violent, visual imagery in order to create a very ominous, impactful scene, with a plot-purpose that is a turning point in the story. In order to create this menacing tone, Goulding selects important diction and figurative language that carries out violent image for the text.
