The theme, characters, and plot/conflict, in chapter twelve of the Lord of the Flies are very similar to those in the song “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson. Chapter twelve begins with Ralph all alone, hiding in the undergrowth of the jungle as he senses the hunters close behind him. Ralph reflects on the loss of civilization, the death of his friends, and the chaos that has unleashed on the island. The hunters find his hiding, but Ralph is able to drive them off until he realizes that the island has been sent up into flames.     Lord of the Flies has several themes that are the key to understanding of literature. Three of the themes of this novel are the fear, courage and lastly survival. Fear has been surrounded throughout the entire novel. With the amount of fear because of an apparent beast, many of the people on the island have changed. Most of the boys have become more violent throughout the novel and have no sense of direction as what to do next. Jack was one of those people who had changed majorly throughout the novel.     Ralph has several positive characteristics but he also has several crucial weaknesses that prevent him from being the perfect leader. In chapter one the boys decide who they want to be leader. The boys decide on Ralph, “”Vote for a chief!”…every hand outside the choir except Piggy’s was raised immediately. Then Piggy, too, raised his hand grudgingly into the air.” (Golding 18-19).
